Chuck Kobasew News

Penguins have signed LW Chuck Kobasew to a 1-year, $550k contract, team announced.

Kobasew had been with the Penguins on a professional tryout. It looks as if the 31-year-old has cracked the opening night roster on the Pens third line. Kobasew has only 53 points in 200 games in his last four NHL seasons.

But forward Chuck Kobasew is out with a head injury, the result of a hit taken in Saturday's loss at Edmonton.

Kobasew was playing on the fourth line so expect Brandon Yip or TJ Galiardi to move down to his slot. The former three-time 20-goal scorer has three goals and six points in 28 games.

A nine-year NHL veteran, Kobasew skated at left wing at practice today with Stastny and Jones, replacing rookie Gabriel Landeskog, who was dropped down to the third line.

The Avs should try Kobasew out in a scoring role as he scored 20 goals before in his career. While with the Minnesota Wild he only managed 18 goals through 105 games leading most to believe he lost that scoring touch. Expect Landeskog to move back onto the top line during the season.
