Adam Henrique News

Henrique (upper-body) did not practice Monday but will travel with the team on their two-game road trip.

Henrique missed Saturday’s game after suffering an upper-body injury on Friday. He didn’t skate this morning, but that won’t stop him from traveling to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. That is a positive sign that the injury is minor, but there is still no word on when he will return to the lineup.

Devils forward Adam Henrique joined the team’s growing list of injured players when he sat out the third period Monday with what the team is calling a lower-body injury.

Henrique appeared to hurt his leg when he became tangled with Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin and fell behind the Montreal net with 2:29 left in the first period. He tried to play through it in the second period, but could not.Henrique was unsure if he’ll be able to play in Wednesday night’s rematch with the Canadiens at Prudential Center. "We’ll see," Henrique said. "We’ll just kind of take it a day at a time here. We’ll see how I feel [today] and go from there."

The Devils signed Henrique to a 6-year, $24-million contract.

The 23-year-old forward had a great rookie year in 2011-12 when he posted 51 points (16 G, 35 A) in 74 games. However he was only able to muster up 16 points in 42 games in the lockout shortened season. With the departure of Ilya Kovalchuk, the Devils needed to re-sign Henrique. He should be considered as a good bounce back candidate heading into the 2013-14 season.

Henrique still isn't ready to play but this is a step towards playing and could be back in the lineup as early as next week. Monitor his status going forward.

Adam Henrique (left thumb surgery) skated again today and said it is going well. "A couple more weeks."

Henrique had an amazing rookie regular season and then an even more impressive playoff run. If you have room to stash him on your roster until he is healthy, I think it would be a good idea. He should have no problem producing once he returns.
