Atkinson will return to the Blue Jackets lineup on Thursday.
Atkinson has missed the last 12 games but was activated from IR yesterday and will replace Sonny Milano in the lineup on Thursday. Atkinson will draw onto the second line with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Emil Bemstrom.

Atkinson has not had the season he was expecting to have after posting a career-high 41 goals and 69 points in 2018-19. He has nine goals (8.0 SH%) and 12 assists (21 points) in 35 games this season.
Atkinson has been placed on IR; is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks with a sprained ankle.
Atkinson was hurt vs. the Kings on December 19th and missed the final two games before the Christmas break. This is a tough time for Atkinson to get hurt because he was finally heating up--scoring five goals with two assists in his previous nine games. With Atkinson, among others, sidelined newcomers like Kevin Stenlund and Eric Robinson have been tasked with playing top-6 roles for Columbus.
Atkinson will miss at least two games with a lower-body injury.
Atkinson suffered a lower-body injury on Thursday and will be out through the Christmas break. That means Atkinson will not play Saturday or Monday, which makes him questionable in Washington coming out of the break.

Atkinson suffered the injury late in Saturday’s game against the Flyers. With Atkinson expected to miss at least one month, he was placed on IR and someone (likely Sonny Milano) is expected to be recalled from Cleveland (AHL) to take his spot on the roster.
Atkinson (healthy scratch) will be back in the Blue Jackets lineup on Tuesday.
Atkinson was benched for the third period in New Jersey on Friday and was healthy scratched Saturday vs. the Coyotes. Head coach John Tortorella wants more out of Atkinson, who has just six goals and three assists (nine points) in 25 games this season.

Atkinson’s extension include a no-trade or no-move clause in the first two years of the deal and a limited no-trade after that. Atkinson had a breakout campaign in 2016-17 but has struggled early-on in 2017-18, collecting just four goals and two assists (six points) in 15 games. Regardless of the slow start, Atkinson is locked into a large role in the Blue Jackets offence and is now signed there through the 2024-25 season.

Atkinson suffered a cut near his hand/wrist area after he was sliced by Alexander Wennberg’s skate while leaving the bench to celebrate last night’s win. Atkinson required 10 stitches to close the wound and is questionable for the Blue Jackets final two games.
