Ashton is expected to fill in for the injured Joffrey Lupul. The former first round pick will be making his debut with the Leafs.

Ashton is a solid prospect currently playing in the AHL. The former first round pick has 19 goals and 35 points in 56 AHL games.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Norfolk Admirals right wing Carter Ashton has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 9, 2011. Ashton scored three goals and recorded an assist in two games to help Norfolk to a pair of victories.
Ashton just missed the cut this training camp and figures to play his first professional season in the AHL. Considering the team currently hold 14 forwards, the Bolts would need to get quite banged up before he gets called up.

Brett Connolly, Mattias Ritola, Cory Conacher, Dana Tyrell and Carter Ashton are all in the lineup for a second or third consecutive game which will go a long way for the Tampa Bay brass in figuring out the large cuts that are expected Sunday.
Ashton remains a wildcard to make the team. He scored 33 goals last season between the Tri-City Americans and Regina Pats last season. The former 29th overall pick projects to play a gritty, two-way game in the NHL either this season or next.
