Evgeni Nabokov News

Nabokov starts in goal for the Islanders.

Nabokov allowed four goals on 26 shots in a loss to the Sharks on March 14th. He was given the next two games off, but will be back in goal this afternoon vs. the Blue Jackets. The Isles are way out of the playoff picture, but could play spoiler today with the Jackets firmly in the playoff picture. However, from a fantasy standpoint, Nabby is not a good option.

They will go back to Nabby tonight, but with Thomas Vanek now in Montreal and John Tavares out for the season, Islanders goalies have become even less trustworthy than they already were.

Nabokov has not started since January 6, a night he stopped seven of eight shots before leaving the games with a quad injury. He made a brief 11 minute and 44 seconds appearance on Monday after replacing Kevin Poulin. He only faced one shot, but he stopped it… So that's a good sign. It is hard to predict how an outdoor game will go, especially under the lights.

Nabokov was injured in Monday's win over the Stars. This is the second time this season that Nabby has been sidelined with a lower-body injury. Like the first time around, Kevin Poulin will take the reigns as the Islanders starter for the time-being.

Nabokov left the game 12:54 into the first period and was replaced by Kevin Poulin. He just returned 11 games ago from a groin injury that cost him 12 games, so the first concern is that he re-aggravated that injury.
