"His foot is probably for 5-8 weeks,'' Holland said. "We're planning it's going to be three months before he can play. We think it's going to be sooner, but we're calling it three months, 10-12 weeks.''

DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland, providing an update today on Jan Mursak, said the speedy, young forward will be out closer to three months after suffering a fractured left ankle in Sunday's preseason game against Chicago.

Coach Mike Babcock said Mursak will be out two months. He has a non-displaced fracture in his left ankle. No surgery is required. He went for an MRI.

DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings forward Jan Mursak left Sunday's preseason game against the Chicago Blackhawks with an injury to his left leg. Mursak, rushing into the offensive zone, was pushed into the boards by Dylan Olsen. Mursak's left leg bent awkwardly underneath him. He was helped off the ice by trainers.

Murask scored one goal through his first 19 NHL games. He likely will challenge for a fourth line spot.

I thought (Jan) Mursak was all over the puck. To me, Conner and Mursak today were on the puck, big-time. I thought they were very good, relentless, chasing, skating, moving. To me they were effective.

The native of Yugoslavia found himself in 19 games last season, scoring his first NHL goal. Expect him to find his way into the lineup sooner rather than later.
