Giordano was already inked through the 2016-17 season, so his new deal will keep him with the Flames until 2022-23. He has missed a total of 39 games over the last two years, but has developped into one of the games best defensemen. With the addition of Dougie Hamilton and this signing, the Flames are going to have a stout blueline for years to come.

The Flames kept very quiet on Giordano’s injury leading up to the deadline, likely to protect their potential deals. Giordano even took warmups on Friday, but obviously didn’t play. The Flames and Gio explored all options to see if they could put surgery off, but ultimately the Flames medical staff elected the best course of action for Giordano was for him to undergo surgery. He is expected to rehab for the next 4-5 months.

Giordano was never expected to play, but he was on the ice for warmups so there was some speculation that he just might play. While he will not play, it is a great sign that he should not miss a ton of time.

The Flames fear he may miss a significant amount of time, but there has been no official word on the nature or severity of their captains injury. Tyler Wotherspoon and Corey Potter have been recalled and one of them will step in for Gio.
Giordano left Wednesday’s game with a lower-body injury and did not return.
Giordano went down awkwardly late in Wednesday’s win over the Devils. He was hooked down and fell to the ice, appearing to twist his knee. Giordano was able to skate off under his own power, but it didn’t look good. Head coach Bob Hartley said that Giordano will be re-evaluated on Thursday.

Giordano missed 18 games but will suit up tonight with the Phoenix Coyotes in town. This is a huge boost for the Flames who get their captain and heart-and-soul of their blueline back vs. a strong Coyotes offence. Prior to being injured, Giordano was on a tear. He has two goals and seven assists in eight games. He obviously won't keep up the point-per-game pace, he is not Erik Karlsson, but he will post serviceable fantasy numbers. It is reasonable to expect him to finish between 30-40 points.

Giordano (ankle) is practicing on a regular pair and participating in power-play and penalty-kill drills, a good sign he will return to the lineup tomorrow vs. Phoenix.
Giordano has been out since October 21 so it has been six weeks which is on the front end of his six-to-eight week timetable. The Flames captain would be a welcomed addition to the blueline, especially against a good Coyotes offence. He had a great start to the year with two goals and nine points in eight games. Monitor his status tomorrow.

Giordano continues to work his way back from a broken ankle that he suffered on October 21. He was given a six-to-eight week timetable and it has been five weeks since he broke the ankle. He is definitely nearing a return and could be back in the lineup next week, which would be a huge boost for the Flames.
