The Hurricanes have recalled Ryan Murphy from Charlotte (AHL).

With Justin Faulk (upper-body) getting placed on injured reserve, the Hurricanes had room to recall Murphy. Murphy had 18 points (1G / 17A) in 16 games with the Checkers since being assigned to Charlotte on January 24. He leads Charlotte defensemen in assists, and was on an 11-game assist streak at the time of his recall.

The Hurricanes have recalled Ryan Murphy from Charlotte.

Murphy was sent down yesterday as a part of the Hurricanes getting their roster down to 23 men. Murphy posseses all the necessary tools to be an elite offensive-defenseman down the road. Once he cracks the Hurricanes roster he should be picked up in deep leagues / keeper leagues.

Hurricanes assigned D Ryan Murphy to Charlotte (AHL) today.

After four strong years in the OHL, Murphy looked poised to make the opening night roster, but today he was sent down. He will start the year in the AHL, but will likely be the first D-man called up for the Hurricanes.

It's official, Kitchener Rangers captain Ryan Murphy has been reassigned to OHL. #canes #ohlrangers #ohl

Murphy played four games for the Hurricanes while they were dealing with multiple injuries on the back-end. The rookie averaged 21+ minutes in his four games but recorded no points and was a minus-4. He is a great offensive talent, remember his name for seasons to come because he will have an impact.

#Canes make Ryan Murphy recall from Kitchener (OHL) official.

Murphy was the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Murphy enjoyed a great OHL career scoring 51 G and 160 A (211 points) in his 220 OHL games. He was seeing time on Carolina's first power-play unit today and with all the injuries on the 'Canes blueline Murphy should see significant minutes right out of the gate. If he can translate his game to the NHL he will be a good fantasy pickup.

Columbus Blue Jackets prospect and current Everett Silvertips captain Ryan Murray will undergo shoulder surgery in two-to-three weeks and will likely be out for the rest of the season.

This is more of an immediate blow to the Canada WJC team than the Blue Jackets who may not have even called up Murray this season. Murray will still be looked on as a contributor in the 2013-14 season.

We have nothing official from the Carolina Hurricanes, but Ryan Murphy tweeted the news himself last night at 11:27pm, and the message was confirmed by TSN's Bob McKenzie shortly thereafter.

Murphy loses all fantasy hockey value by returning to the OHL. With the improved play of Jamie McBain last night he was just a victim of the number game. Getting his feet wet with the NHL team should help his development in the long run.

Maurice indicated there would be no lineup changes for the Bruins, but left the door slightly ajar. Jamie McBain, Derek Joslin and Ryan Murphy were the only defensemen who skated today and appear to again be set as healthy scratches for the Bruins, but Maurice said the coaches would "go through the video" and make a final decision tomorrow.

Murphy made the squad but does not yet have a full-time spot. Last season he scored 26 goals and 79 points through 63 games with the Kitchener Rangers of the AHL. He could be sent back to Juniors if he doesn't figure into the lineup soon enough.

And while it’s not surprising that teenagers Ryan Murphy and Justin Faulk made the cut, it is eyebrow-raising that the team will carry nine defensemen to start the season.

The Carolina Hurricanes find themselves in a perplexing situation regarding their rookie defenseman Ryan Murphy. They can keep him for the season, they can keep him for a nine game "preview" and then return him to the juniors, or they can return him to his junior team before the season starts, (and anytime up to the nine games).

Murphy probably is beaten out of a spot by Justin Faulk. Last season he scored 26 goals and 79 points through 63 games with the Kitchener Rangers of the AHL. Expect him to make an NHL impact as soon as next season.

Ryan Murphy remains in Raleigh.

The slick, puck-moving defenseman continues to tease the hockey world by staying with the big club. While we believe he certainly is a very talented youngster, the numbers game in Carolina could eventually lead to his demotion. Regardless, a 9-game tryout would not be unexpected.

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Ryan Murphy on a three-year, entry-level contract.

Murphy will challenge for a spot on the team's blue line but will battle heavy competition like fellow prospects Justin Faulk and Bobby Sanguinetti and veterans Derek Joslin and Jay Harrison. If he cannot make the team, he will be sent back to his OHL team, the Kitchener Rangers.

"But with that said, we will keep an open mind. We look forward to seeing him in a structured environment in training camp, with better players. Whether he plays for us this season or goes back to junior for another year, he has a bright future with the Hurricanes."

Murphy has a very remote shot of making the team out of training camp but should be a name to remember. At age 18, he managed to score 26 goals in only 63 games for the Kitchener Rangers -- Jeff Skinner's alma mater.
