2022-23 NHL Award predictions: Daily Faceoff staff picks

It’s a lucky time to be an NHL fan, an era populated by the most scintillating superstars of a generation: all-world dominator Connor McDavid, peerless goal scorer Auston Matthews and untouchable defenseman Cale Makar.

The three of them currently hold the Hart (Matthews), Art Ross (McDavid), Rocket Richard (Matthews), Norris (Makar) and Conn Smythe (Makar) Trophies, not to mention the Ted Lindsay Award (Matthews). Can anyone unseat them for a major NHL Award in 2022-23?

Eight members of the senior Daily Faceoff staff have cooked up their best guesses at who takes home the following NHL hardware this season:

Hart Trophy (most valuable player)
Vezina Trophy (best goaltender)
Norris Trophy (best defenseman)
Calder Trophy (best rookie)
Selke Trophy (best defensive forward)
Rocket Richard Trophy (leading goal scorer)
Art Ross Trophy (leading points getter)
Jack Adams Award (coach of the year)

Just for kicks, we also had our staff predict McDavid’s point total and Matthews’ goal total. Will McDavid top Nikita Kucherov’s 128 points from 2018-19 and deliver the highest single-season total of the salary cap era? Will Matthews improve on his 60-goal showing from last season? He did it in 73 games. How many does he score if he plays a full year?

Here are the selections from Matt Larkin, Mike McKenna, Tyler Yaremchuk, Nick Alberga, Steven Ellis, David Quadrelli, Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli. Minnesota Wild superstar Kirill Kaprizov has some serious sleeper MVP juice, while several staffers like New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin to break through into superstardom. Seattle Kraken center Matty Beniers is the most popular pick for rookie of the year after a promising debut late last season.
