Avs’ TJ Galiardi breaks wrist, out indefinitely

TJ Galiardi broke his wrist last night after absorbing a hit from Flames’ captain Jarome Iginla awkwardly.

The Avs have been unlucky when it comes to injuries– losing Adam Foote, Kyle Cumiskey, Peter Mueller and Kyle Wilson already to the bug– and take another brutal blow to their depth chart. Adrian Dater of the Denver Post describes exactly how Galiardi got hurt:

His hand got jammed into the top of the dasher after a hit from Iginla. He left the ice in obvious pain. You have to hope it isn’t broken.
*Update: It is broken. He’s out indefinitely, and Van Der Gulik tore his MCL and out indefinitely.
That makes it an even 10 players the Avs have sidelined with injuries.

Certainly losing Gally for an extended period of time will hurt more than the fourth-line plug Van Der Gulik.  The young winger has been playing on the top line all season with Paul Stastny and Chris Stewart. Last night, the Avs used center Daniel Winnik in his place but they could use David Jones, Brandon Yip, Milan Hejduk or even Matt Duchene as his replacement on the left side.
