Benn could play Saturday

Jamie Benn injured his wrist last Saturday after taking a hard hit from Phoenix Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal.

Benn has been forced to miss the Stars last two games because of the injury. Dallas lost both games, 4-0 to Nashville on Tuesday and then 2-1 to Anaheim on Thursday. Dallas is in the middle of the pack in scoring this season, but without Benn they have struggled to find offense, scoring just one goal in two games.

Benn took part in his first practice since getting hurt this morning and could return to the lineup tomorrow when the first place Chicago Blackhawks come to town. Given Dallas’ recent struggles they sit 11th in the Western Conference, three points out of the final playoff spot.

Benn sat out the first couple of weeks of the season because of a contract holdout. Since he entered the Stars lineup he has produced at a consistent pace. Although he has only appeared in 19 games this season he has notched six goals and 10 assists, which is third amongst Stars players. The only downfall to Benn’s season to this point is his minus-7 rating.

Benn skated this morning on a line with Ray Whitney and Erik Cole, but he will be a game-time decision tonight.

“He skated today and shot a few pucks. He feels great other than the wrist, but he’ll be a game-time decision,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan.
