Breezer Leaves Her Hanging

After 1009 games, 98 goals and 322 assists, defenseman Patrice Brisebois will announce his retirement from the NHL. He spent 16 of his 18 years in Montreal, including a Cup win in 1993, and was derided as much for his big-money contract in the early 2000s and his risky offensive style as he was adored for the points his style earned. His production only began to tail off the last few seasons, with his career-best season (at least in points total) coming in 2005-06 with Colorado. Injuries weren’t too kind to “Breezer”, only hitting 80 games played once (and only going over 70GP seven times in 18 years), but he still found a way to produce when he was on the ice. He certainly picked the perfect day to retire, too, quietly riding off into the sunset buried beneath the news of a certain coach quitting a certain team in the desert.
