Cam Barker and Kim Johnsson Trade Jerseys

The Chicago Blackhawks sent defenseman Cam Barker to the Minnesota Wild for two more defensemen: Nick Leddy and Kim Johnsson.

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago Johnsson could play second or third pairing and should see time on both the powerplay and penalty kill.  If you happen to own this 33-year-old blue liner, his value can only rise.  The Blackhawks tie for fourth in the league in goals forced so Johnsson joins a dynamic lineup.

Barker projects for a meager 23 points on the season after a solid 40 point effort last season.  With a healthy Brent Burns, the Wild now boast a nice core of young defensemen.  Hard to say a player’s value will increase by leaving such a talented lineup but Barker will improve a mediocre offense while playing increased minutes.

The Hawks gain the cap space they need while receiving a fair bounty for their former 3rd overall pick.  With Brent Seabrook and Duncan Keith as well as the handcuff Brian Campbell contract the move simply makes sense.
