Canadiens Sign Gallagher to Extension

Canadiens Sign Gallagher to Extension
The @Montreal Canadiens have signed winger @Brendan Gallagher to a six-year contract extension worth $39.0 million ($6.5M AAV).

This deal comes on the heels of a report that talks between Montreal and Gallagher had stalled. Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports that “Gallagher’s camp and [the] Habs circled back to each other last night and got back on track and got working at it today.

Gallagher had one year left on a six-year deal that carried a $3.75M AAV cap-hit but is now signed through the 2027 season. LeBrun also mentioned that this deal includes a modified no-trade and a full no-move clause for the duration of the deal. The 28-year-old winger missed 12 games due to injury in 2019-20 but was still tied for the team-lead in goals (22) and second on the team in points-per-game (0.73).

Montreal also announced earlier on Wednesday that they re-signed backup goaltender @Jake Allen to a two-year deal worth $2.875 million. This deal is most likely for Seattle expansion draft purposes more than anything else.

After adding @Josh Anderson via trade and @Tyler Toffoli via free agency, the Canadiens are looking much deeper upfront as we head into the 2020-21 campaign.
