Canucks trade Del Zotto to Anaheim for Luke Schenn

The Canucks and Ducks have swapped a defenseman.

Vancouver has acquired Luke Schenn and a 7th round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft from the Anaheim Ducks, in exchange for Michael Del Zotto. Schenn will report directly to the Utica Comets.

Schenn was sent down to the AHL after struggling in eight games with Anaheim. He does have 10 points and is plus-8 through his first 22 games of his AHL career. In 716 career NHL games split between Anaheim, Arizona, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Toronto, the 6-2, 221-pound defenceman has registered 30 goals and 143 points.

Schenn was drafted fifth overall by Toronto in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and has failed to live up to expectations.

Del Zotto had been struggling to stay in the Vancouver lineup, managing four points in 23 games. The 28-year-old has played in 589 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers and Canucks, recording 54 goals, 215 points and 258 PIM.

The Canucks will be retaining 25 percent of Del Zotto’s salary.

In a separate trade Wednesday evening, the Ducks acquired center Derek Grant from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Joseph Blandisi.

The busy night for the Ducks comes in the middle of a 12-game losing streak. They traded Pontus Aberg to the Wild earlier today.
