After facing just seven shots over the first twelve minutes of the game, netminder Michael Neuvirth exited the Captials – Bruins game early. Washington Post’s Katie Carrera reports that Neuvirth departed the game early due to flu like symptoms.
Neuvy was making his sixth consecutive start of the season tonight and had already allowed two goals. Despite the start tonight, Michal has played stellar for the Capitals, posting a .930 SV% and a 2.16 GAA to start the season.
Neuvirth was replaced in net by Semyon Varlamov, who is returning from a groin injury and has yet to see time this season.
Coach Bruce Boudreau had hinted that Varlamov may get the start late this week when the Bruins play host to the Capitals on Thursday.
While the situation doesn’t sound serious, keep checking back right here for updates.
