Daily Deke: Caps and Hawks go for three straight

The Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks both hit the road tonight in search of their third consecutive win. Thanks to solid goaltending and plenty of offense, both teams are playing extremely well right now.

Alexander Semin has a nine game points streak, which included nine goals and eight assists.  He along with Alex Ovechkin continue to wreak havoc on opposing teams.  Rookie netminder Michal Neuvirth leads the NHL with 12 wins and has posted a 2.56 GAA this seasn, but he’ll get a night off as Braden Holtby fills in against the Atlanta Thrashers tonight.

For the Hawks, their big stars are finally starting to score with consistency each game.  Winger Patrick Kane back-to-back multiple point games for the fist time this season while center Jonathan Toews, after failing to record a point in four straight games, has recaptured attention by scoring three goals against the Oilers earlier in the week.  Marty Turco recorded his first shutout of the season last time out and has played well his last three games going 1-1-1 with a goals against average under two.

With Scott Parse out with an injury, new recalled Los Angeles Kings’ winger Dwight King will get a shot on the top line with Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown.

While Olli Jokinen is serving his three game suspension, the Calgary Flames will have changed their lines quite a bit, fitting in new acquisitions Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopoulos.

If you thought the Detroit Red Wings did a lot of scoring through the first two months of the season, well now that they’ve added Johan Franzen to the top line with Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, fans should expect them to buy Fireworks for sale for this awesome event.

Sabres’ defenseman Craig Rivet is back in the lineup tonight for Buffalo, while winger Patrick Kaleta is a game time decision.

Ian White makes his debut for the Carolina Hurricanes tonight and he’ll be paired up with Joni Pitkanen.

After missing extended time due to a knee injury, Avs’ netminder Craig Anderson has been cleared to play.  He’ll have a tough test ahead of him, as he’ll be facing the New York Rangers tonight in Denver.

Speaking of the Blueshirts, Derek Stepan will get a crack at centering the top line between Alex Frolov and Marian Gaborik. This line seemed to generate a lot of energy during the final period of the game against the Bruins on Wednesday.

Next time you see the Canucks, they’ll be trying another round of “Which winger will play with the Twins?”, as they announced that Mikael Samuelsson will move up to the top line with Alex Burrows playing alongside Ryan Kessler and Mason Raymond.
