Eriksson Ek, Fleury push Wild over Canadiens

For the first time all year, the Minnesota Wild allowed less than three goals as Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 26 of 27 shots (.963 SV%) in the Wild’s 3-1 win in Montreal. Joel Eriksson Ek had two goals (3,4) in the win, while Brandon Duhaime scored the game-winning goal halfway through the second period. Matt Boldy led all skaters with eight SOG across 19:05 TOI. Jake Allen took the loss after allowing two goals on 30 shots (.933 SV%), and Cole Caufield collected his fifth goal in seven games as he scored the lone Montreal tally.

Coyotes unexpectedly double up Blue Jackets in Laine’s return

Connor Ingram got his first win as a member of the Coyotes after stopping 31 of 34 shots as the Coyotes easily handled the Blue Jackets 6-3 on the road. Shayne Gostisbehere continued his hot start to the season, getting his seventh point in six games with two goals (3,4) in the win. Clayton Keller joined Gostisbehere as the only Coyotes with multiple points as he grabbed three assists to also get to seven points (2G/5A) through six games. The Coyotes got goals from Zack Kassian (1), Dylan Guenther (1), Jack McBain (1), and Lawson Crouse (2) in their highest-scoring game of the season. Daniil Tarasov struggled in the loss, allowing four goals on 12 shots (.667 SV%) before being pulled in the second period. Johnny Gaudreau (5), Kent Johnson (3) and Andrew Peeke (2) all found the back of the net during garbage time in the third period.

Ullmark continues hot streak as Bruins top Stars in battle of division leaders

Linus Ullmark won his fifth straight start (5-0-0), stopping 30 of 31 shots as the Bruins beat Dallas 3-1 in a tight showdown. David Pastrnak was the lone Bruin to get more than a point as he scored a power-play goal and an assist to tie Artemi Panarin for the NHL lead in points with 12 points (5G/7A) through seven games. Patrice Bergeron led all skaters with five SOG adding an empty net goal (4) to go along with Taylor Hall’s (4) second-period game-winning-goal. Jake Oettinger stopped 26 shots but suffered his first loss of the season, as Dallas lost for the second night in a row. Wyatt Johnston scored his third goal of the year as he makes his push to stay in the Stars’ lineup beyond his nine-game rookie showing.

Devils win fourth in five games as Bratt and Vanecek lead New Jersey over Detroit

New Jersey has now won four of their last five as they easily handled the Red Wings 6-2 on the road. Vitek Vanecek got his first win of the 2022-23 season, stopping 20 of 22 shots (.909) as the Devils controlled puck possession all game. Jesper Bratt dominated in all aspects of the game with two goals (2,3), an assist and four SOG to tie for the NHL lead in points with 12 points (3G/9A) in six games.

Jack Hughes enjoyed his second multi-point effort of the season with a goal (2) and an assist in the win. Ryan Graves and Dougie Hamilton each had two assists, while Fabian Zetterland led all skaters with seven SOG. Alex Nedeljkovic was under constant pressure, allowing six goals on 41 shots (.854 SV%). Dominik Kubalik continued his historically hot start to his Red Wings career, as his goal and assist moved him to 10 points (4G/6A) in six games.

Georgiev wins revenge game in goaltending showdown as Avalanche down Rangers in shootout

Alexandar Georgiev played with a chip on his shoulder Tuesday as he returned to New York for his first game since being traded in the offseason and stopped 44 of 46 shots (.957 SV%) in a 3-2 shootout victory.

He outdueled who many consider the best goaltender in the world, Igor Shesterkin, who was equally impressive, turning aside 42 of 44 shots (.955 SV%). Valeri Nichushkin scored his NHL-leading seventh goal and 12th point (7G,5A) while leading all Avalanche forwards with five SOG. Logan O’Conner scored a short-handed goal (1) as the other Colorado contributor. Barclay Goodrow scored a goal (2) and an assist and was the only skater to finish with multiple points in the contest. Adam Fox had the other Rangers goal (2), getting his seventh point (2G/5A) in as many games while playing 25:33 TOI.

Blackhawks spread out scoring for fourth straight victory as they beat the Panthers

Alex Stalock continued his resurgent return to the NHL, winning his third straight game while stopping 29 of 31 shots (.935 SV%) in a 4-2 victory over Florida. Patrick Kane had a goal (1) and an assist and has four points in his last two games (1G/3A). Taylor Raddysh (2), Philipp Kurashev (2) and Jonathan Toews (3) all added goals in the winning effort. Sergei Bobrovsky was not busy throughout the game but struggled, allowing three goals on 21 shots (.857 SV%) to get his second loss in as many starts. Matthew Tkachuk stayed hot, adding a goal (4) to his nine points (4G/5A) in seven games to start his Panthers career. Eetu Luostarinen continued his breakout campaign in his fourth NHL season, adding a goal (3) in the loss, giving him six points (3G/3A) in seven games.

Kessel scores 400th and becomes new Ironman as Vegas doubles down on San Jose

Tuesday was all about Phil Kessel as he scored his 400th career goal in his 990th consecutive game to become the NHL’s new Ironman.

The winger had three SOG while scoring his first goal as a member of the Golden Knights and playing 12:40 TOI in the historical affair. Adin Hill stopped 28 of 30 shots (.933 SV%) as he stayed undefeated since joining the Golden Knights (3-0-0) while keeping an impressive .934 SV%. Shea Theodore (2), Mark Stone (2) and William Karlsson (3) all chipped in with goals alongside Kessel. James Reimer struggled after posting a shutout his last time out, allowing four goals on 31 shots (.871 SV%) as he took his fourth loss of the season.

Kadri’s hot start continues and Markstrom stays undefeated as Flames beat Penguins

Jacob Markstrom stopped 32 of 33 shots (.970 SV%) to keep his undefeated record intact (4-0-0) as the Calgary Flames took care of the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1. Nazem Kadri had a pair of first-period goals (3,4) to go along with an assist as he collected his ninth point (4G/5A) in six games since signing his massive offseason deal with the Flames. Jonathan Huberdeau finally scored his first as a Flame, while Mark Stone (2) nabbed the other Calgary goal. Casey DeSmith was the losing goalie after allowing four goals on 32 shots (.889 SV%).

Lightning fall below .500 as Kings win first in four games

Tampa Bay’s tough start to the season continued Tuesday as they lost to Jonathan Quick and the LA Kings 4-2 after getting 25 shots on goal (.920 SV%). Gabe Vilardi was the lone player on both sides to finish with multiple points as he collected his team-leading ninth point (5G,4A) after scoring a goal and an assist along with a team-high four SOG while only getting 13:50 TOI. Phillip Danault (4), Blake Lizotte (1) and Adrian Kempe (5) added the other Los Angeles goals. Tampa Bay had no assists as they scored two unassisted goals from Brandon Hagel (2) and Nikita Kucherov (1). Andrei Vasilevskiy surrendered four goals on 33 shots (.879 SV%) while losing his third game of the season (2-3-0).

Sprong has three-point night as Kraken crush Sabres in Seattle

Martin Jones only had to make 15 saves Tuesday while earning his third win (3-2-1) of the season as Seattle beat up Buffalo 5-1 on home ice. Daniel Sprong had a goal (1) and two assists as he made a massive impact in only 10:33 TOI while leading the Kraken with four SOG and a plus-3 rating. Brandon Tanev and Vince Dunn were the other Kraken players with multiple points, as they both finished with two assists. Jamie Oleksiak (1), Morgan Geekie (1), Jared McCann (4) and Matty Beniers (3) spread the rest of the goal-scoring out for Seattle. Eric Comrie struggled in the loss, allowing five goals on just 24 shots (.792 SV%). Rasmus Dahlin failed to score for the first time this season but picked up an assist on a Dylan Cozens goal (2) to move to nine points (5G/4A) in his first six games.
