Vanecek extends win streak to eight as New Jersey beats Toronto in overtime

Vitek Vanecek stopped 25 of 27 shots (.926 SV%) to win his eighth straight game and move to 8-1-0 on the year with a 3-2 overtime victory in Toronto Thursday, extending the Devils’ win streak to 11 games. Jesper Bratt increased his team lead in points and moved to 10th in the NHL by scoring a first-period goal (7), which brought him to 22 points (7G/15A) in 16 games. Nico Hischier scored his ninth goal of the season to increase his team lead, while Yegor Sharangovich scored with a minute left in overtime to steal the game in overtime for the Devils. Matt Murray allowed three goals on 33 shots (.909 SV%) to move to 1-1-1, while Auston Matthews led the Maple Leaf’s offence with a powerplay goal (8) and assist (11) to move above a point-per-game with 19 Pts in 18 games played.

Vasilevskiy stands tall in home victory for Lightning over Flames

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 39 of 40 shots (.975 SV%) in one of his strongest starts of the year as he moved to 6-5-1 with a 4-1 victory over Calgary. Nikita Kucherov scored a pair of goals (8,9) to move to fourth in the NHL in points as the right-winger now has 25 points (9G/16A) through 17 games. Steven Stamkos also had a goal (9) and an assist (10), while Mikhail Sergachev picked up his seventh point (2G/5A) in three games with a two-assist effort in the win. Philippe Myers picked up his first goal of the season (1) while leading all skaters with eight hits, as he was a force all night. Jacob Markstrom struggled with half the work as his counterpart, as he allowed three goals on 23 shots (.870 SV%) to snap a two-game winning streak and move to 6-4-2 on the season. Elias Lindholm (7) scored the lone Flames’ marker, assisted by Jonathan Huberdeau (6) and Tyler Toffoli (8).

Francouz’s monster performance lifts Avalanche to an underserved road victory over Hurricanes

Pavel Francouz was virtually unbeatable Thursday, stopping 46 of 48 shots (.958 SV%) for his second straight victory (2-3-0) as Colorado was heavily outshot but beat Carolina 3-2 in overtime. Artturi Lehkonen (8) scored two minutes into overtime to give the Avalanche the road victory, while Evan Rodrigues (6) and Alex Newhook (3) scored the other two Colorado goals. Antti Raanta faced limited action but still picked up his third straight loss (3-2-2), allowing three goals on only 15 shots (.800 SV%), while Martin Necas was the only skater on both sides to finish with multiple points as he had a goal (8) and an assist (13) to continue his breakout campaign with 21 points in 17 games.

Bobrovsky chased as high-scoring Stars lose Wedgewood in victory over Panthers

Scott Wedgewood stopped 21 of 23 shots (.913 SV%) to pick up the victory but was unable to finish the game after an injury caused him to be stretchered off the ice in the second period. Roope Hintz led all skaters with two goals (7,8) off five SOG to move to 22 points (8G/14A) in 17 games played as Dallas knocked off Florida 6-4 Thursday. Tyler Seguin led Dallas’ offence, Ty Dellandrea and Jamie Benn each putting up a goal and an assist in the win, while Luke Glendening picked up a pair of helpers (1,2) as the lone Star player to finish with multiple assists. A rare sighting of all four dressed goalies playing was seen after Sergei Bobrovsky was pulled after giving up four goals on 11 shots (.636 SV%) for Spencer Knight in the first period. Matthew Tkachuk added to his team lead in points with a goal (6) and an assist (16), as he now has 22 points in 15 games since joining the Panthers in a massive off-season trade. Carter Verhaeghe jumped above a point-per-game with a goal (11) and an assist (7) as he now is up to 18 points in 17 games, while Sam Bennett was the other Florida player to finish with multiple points with his three assists (6,7,8) effort in the loss.

Ullmark increases NHL lead in wins as Bruins top Flyers to keep their perfect home record in check

Linus Ullmark continued his strong early case for the Vezina Trophy as he stopped 23 of 24 shots (.957 SV%) to increase his NHL lead in wins (12-1-0) as Boston beat Philadelphia handily 4-1 Thursday. David Krejci’s impressive comeback season continued as he potted a pair of goals (3,4) to move to 11 points (4G/7A) in his first 14 games after missing the 2021-22 season. Tomas Nosek (2) and Jake DeBrusk (6) scored the other two Bruins goals, while Pavel Zacha (7,8) and Nick Foligno (5,6) each had a pair of assists in the win. Carter Hart allowed four goals on 32 shots (.875 SV%) as he picked up his fourth straight loss moving to 6-3-3 on the season.

Connor’s hat trick propels Jets over Ducks in a close battle

Kyle Connor’s days of slumping are no far behind him as the start left-winger scored a hat-trick (3,4,5) off six SOG to push Winnipeg over Anaheim in a 3-2 home victory. Connor now has 11 points (4G/7A) in his last six games, bringing his season totals to a point-per-game with his 15 points (5G/10A) in 15 games. The other star Connor on the Jets, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was impressive again, stopping 29 of 31 shots (.935 SV%) to move to 8-3-1 on the season. Mark Schiefele grabbed a pair of assists to double his season totals (3,4) in the category while playing a whopping 23:12 TOI. John Gibson’s nightmarish start to the season continued as he allowed three goals on 32 shots (.906 SV%) to move to 3-9-1 so far in 2022-23. Troy Terry (7) and Trevor Zegras (8) scored the two Anaheim goals, while Cam Fowler led the team in points with a pair of assists (4,5) in the loss.

Crosby leads Penguins over Wild in the scoring showdown

Tristan Jarry’s early season struggles continued as he allowed four goals on 23 shots (.826 SV%) but still picked up the victory (5-3-2) as Pittsburgh beat Minnesota 6-4 Thursday. Sidney Crosby had the night’s standout performance across all 13 games with a pair of goals (8,9) and two assists (11,12) as the Penguins captain now has 21 points through his first 17 games. Jake Guentzel also had a strong night picking up a goal (9) and two assists (6,7) along with a team-high six SOG as the star left winger is now up to 16 points in 13 games. Ryan Poehling (2), Kris Letang (1) and Brock McGinn (5) scored the three other Penguin goals in the win. Filip Gustavsson struggled in his first start since becoming the Wilds’ starter due to Marc-Andre Fleury heading to the injured reserve, allowing five goals on 31 shots (.839 SV%) as he moved to 1-4-1 on the year. Joel Eriksson Ek was the lone Wild player with a standout performance as he scored a pair of goals (5,6) with four SOG and three hits across 18:06 TOI.

Greiss picks up his first victory as Blues beat Washington in shootout for their fifth straight win

Thomas Greiss deservedly picked up his first win of the season (1-3-0), stopping 47 of 51 shots (.922 SV%) as St. Louis beat Washington 5-4 in a shootout for their fifth straight victory. The Blues’ spread out their scoring as Brayden Schenn (4), Pavel Buchnevich (2), Torey Krug (3), and Ryan O’Reilly (5) each finding the back of the net. Vladimir Tarasenko was the lone St. Louis player with multiple points, picking up two assists (8,9). Charlie Lindgren fought the puck all night, allowing four goals on 24 shots (.833 SV%) before losing in the shootout (2-1-2). Alex Ovechkin led all skaters with three points picking up a goal (9) and two assists (7,8) off a game-high nine SOG across 21:28 TOI. John Carlson picked up his fourth point and 12th shot in the last two games as he scored a pair of goals (4,5) Thursday, while Dylan Strome also had a pair of assists (9,10) in the loss.

Battle of top goaltenders turns into shootout as Nashville tops Islanders

Juuse Saros stopped 29 of 33 shots (.879 SV%) to win his third straight start moving to 6-6-1 as Nashville beat the New York Islanders 5-4 at home. Juuso Parssinen continued to prove a fit on the Predators’ top line as he picked up a pair of goals (2,3) and an assist (1) to bring his early totals to four points (3G/1A) in three games. Roman Josi extended a four-game point streak (1G/6A) with an impressive four-assist (8,9,10,11) performance while he moved up to fifth in the NHL with 75 SOG after picking up seven in the win. Filip Forsberg picked up a goal (6) and an assist (11) as he now is up to a point-per-game with 17 points in 17 games. Ilya Sorokin had his worst start of the early season as he allowed five goals on 31 shots (.839 SV%) to move to 7-5-0. Adam Pelech and Jean-Gabriel Pageau led the Islanders’ offence with a goal and an assist each.

Golden Knights get back in the win column as they take down Arizona at home

Logan Thompson continued his impressive Calder Trophy campaign as he moved to 9-3-0 after stopping 25 of 26 shots (.962 SV%) in a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. Alex Pietrangelo was the offensive standout Thursday for Vegas as he scored a goal (2), added two assists (14,15), and is now tied for sixth among NHL defensemen in points with 17 in 18 games. Mark Stone (5), Reilly Smith (9) and William Carrier (4) all scored for the Golden Knights, while Jonathan Marchessault picked up a pair of assists (6,7) in the win. Karel Vejmelka allowed four goals for a second straight loss, stopping 39 shots (.897 SV%) to move to 5-5-1. Clayton Keller had the lone Coyotes’ goal (7) as he added to his impressive start to the season with 18 points (7G/11A) through 16 games.

Kuraly clutch for Blue Jackets as they down Canadiens at home

Joonas Korpisalo won his second straight start (3-1-1), stopping 38 of 42 shots (.905 SV%) as Columbus beat Montreal 6-4 in a high-scoring contest Thursday. Sean Kuraly led the Blue Jackets with two third-period goals (4,5) and an assist (3), while Boone Jenner picked up his eighth point (6G/2A) in his last six games with a goal (7) and an assist (5) while playing 18:35 TOI. Sam Montembeault had his worst start of the season, allowing five goals on 28 shots (.821 SV%) to move to 3-2-1 on the season. Nick Suzuki’s breakout season continued as he picked up a goal (11) and an assist (10) to improve his team lead in points to 21 through 17 games. Brandon Gallagher picked up a goal (3) and an assist (4), while Christian Dvorak joined him as the other Canadiens player with multiple points as he finished with two assists (4,5) in the loss.

Schultz scores twice, including the overtime winner as Seattle beats New York in overtime

Martin Jones’s great start to 2022-23 (8-4-2) continued as he stopped 28 of 30 shots (.933 SV%) in a 3-2 Seattle victory over New York Thursday. Justin Schultz was the unlikely hero as he picked up a pair of goals (2,3), including the overtime marker to go along with a team-high five SOG while only playing 19:56 on the back end. Jared McCann (6) picked up the other Seattle goal, while Jordan Eberle led all skaters with two assists (8,9). Igor Shesterkin snapped a two-game winning streak by allowing three goals on 32 shots (.906 SV%) as he moved to 8-2-3 on the season. Vincent Trocheck picked up his first point in four contests after scoring a goal (6) and an assist (7) while Mika Zibanejad improved his team lead in goals (10) by picking up his 20th point (10G/10A) in 17 games.

Red Wings score a touchdown to snap a four-game skid with win over Sharks

Ville Husso got himself out of the loss column for the first time in four starts as he stopped 21 of 25 shots (.840 SV%) to move to 6-2-3 as Detroit beat San Jose 7-4 Thursday. David Perron led all skaters with a goal (6), two assists (7,8) and a +4 plus/minus rating, while Dominik Kubalik added to his team lead in points with a goal (8) and an assist (12) to bring him to 20 points (8G/12A) in 17 games in his first season as a Red Wing. Pius Suter enjoyed a strong game as well, picking up a goal (4) and an assist (4), while Dylan Larkin added two assists (11,12) to bring himself to 19 points (7G/12A) in 17 games in his contract year. James Reimer was terrible in his worst start of the season, allowing six goals on 20 shots (.700 SV%) as he moved below .500 to 5-6-2. Erik Karlsson’s legendary season continued as he picked up a point on all four San Jose goals (1G/3A) and is now tied with Leon Draisaitl for second place in the NHL in scoring with 28 points (11G/17A) in 19 games played. Kevin Labanc was the other San Jose player to finish with multiple points as he picked up a goal (3) and an assist (6) to sneakily have seven points (2G/5A) in his last six games.
