Tarasov stands on his head to beat Florida

Daniil Tarasov had the busiest and strongest start of his young career Sunday as he moved to 2-3-0 after stopping 47 of 50 shots (.940 SV%), leading the Columbus Blue Jackets over the Florida Panthers 5-3. Johnny Gaudreau was the lone Columbus player to finish with multiple points as he picked up a goal (7) and two powerplay assists (9,10) to bring his point totals to a point-per-game with 17 points in 17 games since joining the Blue Jackets. Columbus spread out its scoring as Yegor Chinakhov (3), Kent Johnson (4), Sean Kuraly (6) and Boone Jenner (8) each picked up goals in the win. Sergei Bobrovsky continued his tough start to 2022-23, moving to 4-5-1 after allowing five goals on 23 shots (.783 SV%). Aaron Ekblad picked up his first goal (2) since returning from injury five games ago and led all skaters with seven SOG. Gustav Forsling (9,10) and Nick Cousins (2,3) each picked up a pair of assists to lead all skaters, while Matthew Tkachuk (8) and Colin White (5) scored to other two Florida markers.

Malkin scores in 1000th game as Penguins squeak past Blackhawks

Evgeni Malkin celebrated joining the 1000-game club Sunday with a second-period goal (8) as Pittsburgh beat Chicago 5-3 on the road. Sidney Crosby continued his scorching hot streak with a goal (10) and three assists (13,14,15) as the Penguins captain extended his four-game point streak with 11 points(4G/7A) during that span while also moving into sixth in the NHL with 27 points in 19 games. Rickard Rakell had a goal (8) and an assist (5) in the win while he continued to gel in the Penguins’ top-6. Kris Letang picked up a pair of assists (9,10) as the other Pittsburgh player with multiple points. Arvid Soderblom took his second loss in as many starts to move to 2-4-1 after allowing four goals on 24 shots (.833 SV%). Jujhar Khaira (2), Patrick Kane (3) and Philipp Kurashev (3) each scored for Chicago in the losing effort.
