Daily NHL Betting Guide – 01/03/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Edmonton Oilers (vs. SEA) ML -148

The Oilers look like an absolute bargain tonight. They are only a few days from smashing the Kraken 7-2 in Seattle without Leon Draisaitl, and tonight it looks as if they’ll get their star centre back. He took part in Monday’s practice and took regular reps as the second-line centre, so there appears to be a strong chance that he plays on Tuesday. Get this bet in before the news becomes official and this line gets away from you.

Stay Away 🚫

Montreal Canadiens (@ NSH)

The model likes the Canadiens in Nashville tonight but it doesn’t see that Samuel Montembeault gets the nod (already confirmed). Montembeault has had his moments this season but most of his big games have come against teams like Columbus, Chicago and Arizona. The Predators are no juggernaut but they’re playing better lately and should be able to take advantage of a Canadiens team missing most of their key blueliners and starting their backup goalie.

St. Louis Blues (@ TOR)

The model also likes the Blues tonight but it hasn’t had a chance to react to them missing both Ryan O’Reilly and Vladimir Tarasenko tonight. Both players were played on IR on Monday.
