Daily NHL Betting Guide – 12/21/22

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

Tampa Bay Lightning (@ DET) ML -146

The Lightning had a tough performance in Toronto last night, snapping their five-game winning streak. They’ll look to bounce back in Detroit against a Red Wings team that has struggled recently. Detroit has lost six in a row, averaging just 1.7 goals for per game. Additionally, Friday’s game against Buffalo was postponed due to an impending storm, so there’s an increased chance that Andrei Vasilevskiy goes back-to-back, since this is now their final game before the Christmas break.

2 Unit Bet: TBL ML -146

Edmonton Oilers (@ DAL) ML +134

The Oilers are on a three-game losing streak, losing one-goal games to the Blues, Ducks, and Predators. This is a good time to buy low on the Oilers, who are pretty sizeable underdogs in Dallas. The Stars started the season 12-5-3 in their first 20 games but are just 7-3-3 in their last 13. During this mediocre stretch for both teams, they compare pretty favourably. Dallas is seventh in xGF% (54.5%), while Edmonton sits 10th (53.3%). The model views Connor McDavid and Co. as -101 favourites, so there’s a ton of value on them at +134.
