Daily NHL Betting Guide – 12/23/22

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

Boston Bruins (@ NJD) ML -117

The Bruins have been the best team in the NHL this season, and getting them at -117, regardless of opponent, is valuable right now. The model sees them as -157 favourites, so I like this play, even with the Bruins on a back-to-back. They’ll have Linus Ullmark go tonight, with the Devils countering with Mackenzie Blackwood. New Jersey has lost six of their last seven, so they certainly aren’t the same team we saw go on a 13-game winning streak in late October/early November.

1 Unit Bet: BOS ML -117

New York Islanders (vs. FLA) ML +124

The Islanders are expected to go back to Ilya Sorokin on Friday, which provides this bet with plenty of value at +124. The Panthers haven’t really played well enough to be road favourites, especially without Aleksander Barkov. Florida has lost three of their last four and five of their last seven entering Friday. The model pegs the Islanders has -108 favourites, so there’s a lot to like about getting them as road favourites.

1 Unit Bet: NYI ML +124

Colorado Avalanche (@ NSH) ML -118

Colorado continues to play well without Nathan MacKinnon, as they’ve won three in a row and five of their last six. Nashville is playing better as of late, but Colorado dominated this matchup last Saturday, winning the xG battle 3.8 to 2.3 and winning the game 3-1.

1 Unit Bet: COL ML -118
