Daily NHL betting guide: January 12

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks

Line to Watch

Dallas Stars (vs. SEA)

The model isn’t recommending any bets this morning, but is very close on the Dallas Stars (-194). If this line moves a little bit and Dallas gets to -187 or better, then the Stars become a play. The Stars have been nearly unbeatable in Dallas since the middle of November, winning 12 of their last 13 games at American Airlines Center while averaging 4.08 goals-for per game and 2.23 goals-against per game.

Meanwhile, the Kraken have lost nine of their last 12 road games while being outscored 3.75 to 2.67 per game.

Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks

Game Pick

Total Goals: Toronto vs. Arizona over 6.0 total goals (-110)

Both of these teams have been hitting the six-goal mark consistently as of late. The Leafs have done it in all six games that they’ve played this month and the Coyotes have his that number in three of their four games since returning from the break.

Petr Mrazek will also be going for the Leafs, who are playing the second game of a back-to-back set, and he’s allowed 11 goals in his only three appearances this season. I love the over here.

Prop Pick

Taylor Hall over 0.5 assists vs. MTL (+145)

I love the value here, considering he’s had two assists in back-to-back games and has picked up at least one in four of his last five games. He’s seemingly found some chemistry with David Pastrnak on the Bruins’ second line and I like them to keep rolling tonight in a matchup against a Canadiens team that’s allowed 14 goals in its last three games.
