Daily NHL Betting Guide: October 30

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

Winnipeg Jets (@ SJS)

As I mentioned last week when I bet Nashville vs. San Jose, the Sharks offence was fortunate to have as much success as they did early on. Since I stated that, they’ve scored just one goal in two games. They are 30th in xGF/60 (1.84) but come into Saturday in a coin-flip matchup with the Jets. Winnipeg has been able to continue scoring even without Mark Scheiffele and Blake Wheeler and enter play on a four-game winning streak. They are also expected to get Wheeler back tonight and will have the edge in net with Connor Hellebuyck likely to face James Reimer.

1 Unit Bet: WPG -110

Pittsburgh Penguins (vs. NJD)

I have pushed back against the model a little bit when it comes to the Penguins because of all of their injuries. That will come to an end tonight with Sidney Crosby and Jeff Carter returning to the lineup. Without Jack Hughes, the Devils are 1-2-0 and have scored just six goals (2.0 GF/gm). With a lack of offence and a matchup vs. a Penguins team that leads the NHL in xGA/60 (1.84) does not set up well for New Jersey.

1 Unit Bet: PIT -160

Detroit Red Wings (@ TOR)

This bet comes with obvious risk. The Red Wings are travelling to Toronto on the tail-end of a back-to-back and will be without Tyler Bertuzzi, who is ineligible to play in Canada due to his COVID-19 vaccination status. Still, the model gives them a 35.6 percent chance to win, which offers bettors plenty of value on a Red Wings team that is +235 at PointsBet.

Given how much trouble the Maple Leafs had in Chicago, they still don’t appear to be 100 percent right yet. The Red Wings continue to play everyone tough, handing the Capitals their first loss of the season and nearly doing the same vs. Florida last night. There is upset potential here.

1 Unit Bet: DET +235

Lines to Watch

Colorado Avalanche (vs. MIN)

The Avalanche continues to work through a tough start to the season and Saturday will be another hurdle. It will be their first matchup of the season vs. Minnesota, a team they were 5-2-1 against last year. Even though they will be without Mikko Rantanen, they will get Samuel Girard back. Meanwhile, the Wild could have major injury concerns. In their last game, they were without Mats Zuccarello (COVID-19), Rem Pitlick (COVID-19), Alex Goligoski (upper-body) and Dmitry Kulikov (lower-body). The Wild lost 4-1 in Minnesota without those four on Thursday, so they could be in trouble in Colorado tonight.
