Blues at Bruins | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Bruins -145 Favorites

The 2019 Stanley Cup final will commence on Monday at TD Garden in Boston with the host Bruins listed as solid favorites over the Blues despite a long layoff of 11 days. Boston completed a sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference final back on May 16, cashing as -115 road favorites while extending their playoff winning streak to seven games, their longest since 1972.

St. Louis wrapped up the Western Conference final by outscoring the San Jose Sharks 12-2 in the last three games after dropping two of the first three by a 13-11 margin. The Blues had a much tougher road en route to making their first Stanley Cup appearance since 1970, when they fell to the Bruins in four games. But St. Louis still found a way to knock out the Winnipeg Jets in six games, the Dallas Stars in seven and San Jose in six by overpowering them physically and clinched each series on home ice.

The Blues also have gone 7-2 on the road this postseason, so they should be more than ready to handle the raucous fans here in the series opener. Boston is 6-3 so far at home in the playoffs and has ridden the goaltending of Tuukka Rask (1.84 goals-against average, .942 save percentage and two shutouts) along with a balanced scoring attack that has seen six players total 12 points or more, led by winger Brad Marchand with 18 (seven goals and 11 assists). St. Louis has seven players who have 10 points or more, but they have played two more games.

The key early on in this series will be whether Rask is rusty at all and how counterpart Jordan Binnington performs as a 25-year-old rookie for the Blues with the spotlight on him. Binnington has been outstanding late in each previous series, although he struggled at times earlier too.

The OVER has cashed in Boston’s last three home games and is also 4-1-1 in the previous six for St. Louis on the road, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, so that trend might be the most appealing one to wager on in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final.
