Islanders vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -150 Favorites

The Lightning will be back on the ice for the first time in a week on Monday when they take on the Islanders in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final. Tampa Bay was the only team in the second round that did not need seven games to advance, disposing of the Boston Bruins in five. New York took care of the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, blanking them 4-0 as a -125 favorite behind 16 saves from goaltender Thomas Greiss. After closing as small underdogs in each of the first two games against the Flyers, the Islanders turned the tables and were listed as chalk in the last five, winning three of them. In fact, New York’s three losses in the series were all decided in overtime.

It will be interesting to see who Islanders head coach Barry Trotz puts between the pipes for Game 1 since Greiss has played so well in his last two starts while regular starter Semyon Varlamov surrendered nine goals on 63 shots over two games that were both decided in extra sessions. The Lightning have no such goalie controversy because their netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy is playing his best hockey of the postseason. Vasilevskiy has stopped 97 of 101 shots in his last three games for a save percentage of .960. But Tampa Bay has struggled a bit versus New York recently, going 2-3 with the UNDER going 3-1-1. The losing team has scored one goal or less in four of the past five meetings. Also of note is that all three of those wins for the Islanders were decided by three goals or more.
