Lightning vs Islanders | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -154 Favorites

The Islanders will try to avoid going down three games to the Lightning in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final on Friday night following a tough 2-1 loss in Game 2 as +145 underdogs on Wednesday night.

New York looked like the right side early on as Matt Martin scored at the 1:24 mark of the first period before Tampa Bay got the equalizer 17 minutes later on Victor Hedman’s seventh goal of the playoffs. The teams then battled defensively for nearly two periods before Nikita Kucherov notched his sixth goal for the Lightning with 8.8 seconds remaining to stun the Islanders, who saw Semyon Varlamov get the start in net and stop 19 of 20 shots before that. Varlamov turned in his best effort for New York since Game 3 against the Philadelphia Flyers in the previous round, but Tampa Bay counterpart Andrei Vasilevskiy was simply better between the pipes in stopping 27 of 28 shots.

After getting blown out 8-2 by the Lightning in Game 1, it was a much better performance from the Islanders, who came up just short in a disheartening setback that could have tied up the series. Instead, New York has to face a Tampa Bay team in Game 3 that has won six straight and found different ways to win, whether it be high-scoring or low-scoring affairs, with a 3-3 OVER/UNDER mark during its winning streak. The Islanders have lost 13 of their last 17 games as underdogs, with the UNDER cashing in eight of the past 12.
