Stars vs Golden Knights | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Golden Knights -192 Favorites

The Stars will try to eliminate the Golden Knights and move on to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2000 on Monday when they square off in Game 5 of the NHL’s Western Conference Final. Dallas will be a big underdog for the fifth consecutive time in this series and 12th time overall going back to the last round against the Colorado Avalanche, and the team has won eight of 10 in that situation.

The key for the Stars has been keeping their opponent from scoring goals, limiting Vegas to two or less three times in four games. In fact, the Golden Knights have not scored more than three goals since picking up a 5-3 victory against the Vancouver Canucks in Game 4 of their second-round series on August 30. Unlike Dallas, Vegas is expected to close as a favorite of -160 or higher for the 17th straight time, with the UNDER on a 7-0 run.

The Stars have seen goaltender Anton Khudobin turn into one of the favorites to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, as he has stopped 119 of 125 shots (.952 save percentage) in the first four games. Counterpart Robin Lehner has not been much worse for the Golden Knights, with 62 saves on 67 shots in his three starts, and he should get the nod again here over Marc-Andre Fleury in this elimination spot.

Vegas faced elimination in Game 7 versus Vancouver in the last round, and Lehner responded with one of his NHL-best four shutouts this postseason in a 3-0 victory. Dallas also led Colorado 3-1 in the last round and made the mistake of starting Ben Bishop in net over Khudobin. The Avalanche scored four goals on Bishop in the first period and went on to win the next two games to force a Game 7. You can bet the Stars will not make the same mistake again with a shot to knock out the Knights.
