Islanders vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -167 Favorites

The Lightning will attempt to make it to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2015 on Tuesday when they face the Islanders in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final. Tampa Bay responded quickly to a 1-0 deficit in the second period of Game 4 on Sunday, striking twice in 12 seconds on goals by Blake Coleman and Ondrej Palat to take a 2-1 lead after New York’s Brock Nelson had scored 15 seconds earlier at the 11:27 mark. The Lightning added two goals in the third from Brayden Point and Patrick Maroon to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Point returned to the ice after missing Game 3 due to injury while Tampa Bay also got Alex Killorn back from a one-game suspension for boarding. Semyon Varlamov was sharp in net for the Islanders early on but was stunned with those two fast goals from the Lightning and never really recovered, finishing with 32 saves on 35 shots. They may choose to start Thomas Greiss over Varlamov in this elimination spot, something that worked well in Game 7 against the Philadelphia Flyers in the last round. Greiss earned a 16-save shutout in a 4-0 victory to advance to the Eastern Conference Final, but then he surrendered three goals on nine shots in an 8-2 loss in Game 1 of this series.

New York has lost five of seven overall now and 14 of 19 as an underdog dating back to January 11. The Lightning have won nine of their last 10 games when closing as favorites going back to August 15, and they are 13-4 overall this postseason.
