Depth players dominate the DF Fantasy Team of the Week

In this week’s installment of the DailyFaceoff Team of the Week it is the depth players of fantasy who had huge weeks. No Stamkos or Crosby this week because every player on this team had an average draft position of 74 or higher (ESPN). Remember this team will be based off of the usual fantasy scoring categories and players that excelled across the board. Skaters – (G, A, +/-, SOG, GWG, SHG, PPP) Goalies – (W, GAA, SV%, SO)

C – Patrice Bergeron – Boston Bruins

The Bruins have been great all season and a lot of it has to do with the familiarity and chemistry the players have with eachother. There are teams in the NHL that change their lines almost every game but the Bruins trios have basically stayed the same all season. Bergeron plays alongside Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand, and this line was awesome this week. Bergeron who is a great two-way forward had his offense on display this week. He scored two goals, five assists to go along with a plus-6 in four games. One of his goals was a game-winner and of his seven points one came via the power-play. Bergeron also average four shots a game for a total on 16 shots. His line-mates Seguin and Marchand each had two goals and three assists of their own this week, just missing the DF Fantasy Team of the Week.

LW – Max Pacioretty – Montreal Canadiens

Pacioretty had four goals and nine assists in 14 games this season before this week. Those are solid numbers for a first-liner but after the great week he just had his numbers are even more impressive. Pacioretty had four goals, three assists and was a plus-4 in four games. Of those seven points two came on the power-play and he also fired a crazy 22 shots on goal. He didn’t record a game-winning goal this week but he did set up his line-mates Brandan Gallagher and David Desharnais for a game-winner each.

RW – Alexander Semin – Carolina Hurricanes

Semin looks a lot more comfortable in Carolina than he did in Washington and he is blossoming alongside Hurricanes captain Eric Staal. After scoring 56 points in 77 games last season with the Caps after the great week he just had he now has just under a point-per-game with 20 points in 21 games. Semin has one of the best shots in the NHL but it has been his playmaking that has taken center-stage thus far. He had one goal and five assists with a plus-5 and 12 shots on goal in four games this week.

D – Brian Campbell – Florida Panthers

When you draft a Florida Panther you do it because they have offensive talent but you know he is likely going to be a minus-player. Campbell had a great week for a fantasy defenceman but even with all the points he racked up he was still a minus for the week. He notched two goals and four assists including four power-play points. However he was a minus-3 but like I said that just comes with the territory when you draft a Panther. Campbell now has six goals and nine assists on the year but is a minus-12.

D – Jared Spurgeon – Minnesota Wild

Spurgeon didn’t record a point in any of his first six games since returning from injury but in his final three games this week he found his scoring touch. Spurgeon scored twice and added an assist to go along with a plus-4 rating. One of his goals was a game-winner and he also had one PPP. Spurgeon is a great young defenceman and has played 20+ minutes in all but one game since returning from injury.

G – Braden Holtby – Washington Capitals

An honorable mention has to go out to Niklas Backstrom this week who won all three of his starts with a 2.00 GAA and .914 SV%. However shutouts are fantasy gold and Holtby had no shortage of shutouts this week. Holtby was the only goalie in the NHL to record a shutout in this past week and he had two of them. He won two of his three starts with a 1.55 GAA and .953 SV%.
