Detroit Red Wings’ Tyler Bertuzzi out four to six weeks with an upper-body injury

Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde told the media Monday morning that forward Tyler Bertuzzi will be out four to six weeks with an upper-body injury.

Bertuzzi, 27, suffered the injury during the second period of Saturday’s 5-2 win against the New Jersey Devils after awkwardly blocking a shot. He was seen in discomfort heading off the ice and would not return to the game.

It’s a significant loss for the Red Wings. The Sudbury, Ontario product registered a career high 30 goals last season, which included 18 even-strength goals. He was second behind captain Dylan Larkin for goals on the team. Bertuzzi also recorded a career-high of 32 assists, giving him 62 points on the year. Through just two games this season, Bertuzzi has one assist. The 2013 second-round 58th overall selection is in his seventh season with the Red Wings.

Lalonde also noted that forward Jakub Vrana will miss Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings for “personal reasons.” The following lines have been updated for tonight’s game thanks to The Athletic’s Max Bultman.
