DFS Lines to Target: 12/31/19

There are nine games on the main NHL slate for New Year’s eve tonight. I’ve highlighted my top high-priced, medium-priced and value stacks to help you out. Good luck!

High-Priced

Colorado 1 – Gabriel Landeskog ($6,700), Nathan MacKinnon ($7,900), Mikko Rantanen ($7,400)

Colorado’s top line has a solid matchup tonight going up against Winnipeg’s top three lines. This Avalanche trio has a 52.57 CF% together this season, while the Jets’ top line of Laine, Connor and Scheifele only has a 45.53 CF%. MacKinnon is third in the NHL scoring race with 56 points in 39 games, while Rantanen is producing at over a point per game rate and Landeskog is heating up with three goals in his last five outings.

Some of the best value here lies with the man advantage. The Jets enter this game with the second-worst penalty kill in the NHL (72.3%) and all three players in this Colorado stack see significant time on the man advantage with Cale Makar on the point. Look for them to produce at both even-strength and on the power play against a struggling Jets squad that has been torched for 15 goals against in three consecutive losses.

Medium-Priced

Carolina 2 – Nino Niederreiter ($4,600), Sebastian Aho ($5,800), Teuvo Teravainen ($6,200)

Carolina’s second line is proving to be one of the NHL’s best at 5-on-5. They have an impressive 60.24 CF% in over 200 minutes of ice time together and will be matched up against Montreal’s second line of Lehkonen, Domi and Suzuki. This Habs unit has mainly underwhelmed when together this season, posting a 49.73 CF% in over 80 minutes of ice time.

Carey Price is struggling in the Montreal crease right now, so the team is opting to start Charlie Lindgren against the Canes. This is a juicy matchup for Carolina considering Lindgren has made just one NHL start over the last two years and owns a lackluster .893 save percentage in 16 appearances with AHL Laval this year. Teravainen and Aho also have great extra value on a lethal first power-play unit going up against a Montreal PK this is seventh-worst in the NHL (76.4%).

Value Stack

Calgary 2 – Sam Bennett ($3,200), Sean Monahan ($5,200), Mikael Backlund ($4,100)

The Flames have put together a new-look second line for their matchup with the Blackhawks tonight. Bennett has had a disappointing season and will get a chance to get going playing alongside two talented offensive players. Backlund has scored twice in his last four games, while Monahan is also playing well with two goals and four points in his last four outings.

Monahan and Backlund have played over 140 minutes together this season and own a solid 50 HDCF%. They will see a mix of Chicago’s top two lines, both of which are getting outchanced at even-strength this season. The Flames won all three meetings against Chicago last season, so there’s nice value with Calgary’s second line tonight in their first meeting with the Hawks this season.
