Duncan Keith Suspended Five Games for Elbow

When Duncan Keith delivered a lethal elbow to the face of superstar winger Daniel Sedin, the question was not if he gets suspended but rather how long. The former Norris Trophy winner led with the elbow and got his man right on his mark: the head. Now with Sedin sidelined presumably indefinitely, Keith will miss all but two games of the regular season.

Keith hasn’t set the world on fire since winning the Norris Trophy. His four goals and 40 points through 72 games could be almost matched if you grabbed a guy like Michael Del Zotto or Nick Leddy off the waiver wire at the beginning of the season. Clearly he’s not the biggest loss to your fantasy hockey lineup; in fact, I would advocate most owners drop him for the remainder of their single-season format.

With the Blackhawks only having seven more games left to play, Keith really won’t see too much more action– the last two games of the season after the Blackhawks presumably clinch a playoff spot. Those of you who wasted an early pick on the Blackhawks stalwart have the right to be even more bitter (I’ll shake my fist angrily with you, you tortured souls).

Do you agree with my assessment? Furthermore, what do you think owners should do with Keith? Did Brendan Shanahan get this suspension right? Check out the video of Shanny himself and sound off in the comments.
