Fantasy Spin: Rangers Ink Winger Alexander Frolov

Fantasy Spin: Rangers Ink Winger Alexander Frolov

Officially or unofficially, the New York Rangers signing Alexander Frolov seems imminent — or at least Dmitri Chesnokov of Puck Daddy believes it will be.

Like many talented Russians, Frolov received the enigma tag after failing to light the lamp similarly to an Ovechkin, Malkin or Kovalchuk but he certainly does have the talent to suceed in the NHL. In fact, the 28-year-old left wing could took less money and years to keep himself in the league opposed to exile in Siberia.

Despite an off-year where he only posted 19 goals, Frolov should be good for at the very least 25 goals a year. Excluding his rookie year, he averaged 26 goals per season including one year where he hit the 35 goal plateau.

That season where he hit the 35 goal mark he played first line minutes with a speedy, puck-distributing center named Craig Conroy and a skilled Slovak scorer named Pavol Demitra. If Frolov lines up with Marian Gaborik and plays first line minutes he should easily hit 25-30 goals and be a bargain come draft time.

Xenophobic rationale holds no bearing on fantasy hockey, so keep that in mind and plug in Frolov if you need help on the left side next season.
