Flyers’ Danny Briere suspended three games

For his actions against Frans Nielsen during Saturday’s game with the New York Islanders, winger/center Danny Briere has been suspended by the NHL for three games. Briere likely received three games, as he’s a repeat offender and his actions had the intent to cause injury to a player.

Briere, who has eight points during eleven games this season, will miss games this week against the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, and a rematch against the New York Islanders on Saturday.

With Briere missing, the Flyers will have to make changes to their lines.  Nikolai Zherdev, who has missed the past two games as a healthy scratch, will once again take the ice for the Flyers.  Along with Zherdev starting, the Flyers have called up 21-year old Eric Wellwood; who will play with James Van Riemsdyk and Mike Richards.
