Varlamov will start for the Avs on Friday [UPDATE]

[UPDATE] Giguere was previously identified as tonight’s starter but apparently Varlamov will start.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere has suddenly become the starter for the Colorado Avalanche after Semyon Varlamov was arrested on Wednesday.

According to Ryan Parker of the Denver Post, Varlamov turned himself in around 6 p.m and is being held without bond on second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault charges. He is set to appear in court this morning, when more details will be released.

In the mean-time, Giguere becomes the Avalanche starter, which definitely boosts his fantasy value. Colorado takes on Dallas on Friday, a game that Giguere was already named the starter for.

Giguere has been sensational in three starts this season. He has won all three contests, two with shutouts and currently has a 0.67 GAA and .981 SV%. If he can continue to play at a high-level, Giguere could become a bona fide fantasy backstop.

The 10-1-0 Avalanche have not announced any call-ups, but expect Sami Aittokallio or Calvin Pickard to join Colorado soon.

Stay tuned for updates following Varlamov’s court appearance.
