Merzlikins has not played the last four games but will likely return to the crease on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens. Despite his recent inactivity, Merzlikins has been solid lately, allowing only two goals in each of his last three outings (2-1-0), including saving 26 of 28 shots (.929 SV%) in his last outing, a 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Marner was not at practice on Monday due to a lower-body injury that kept him out of the lineup in Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. With the Maple Leafs off until Thursday, there is hope that Marner will be ready to return to the lineup, but if he isn't, recently recalled Nicolas Robertson should be the beneficiary.
On the tail-end of a back-to-back, the Rangers are expected to turn to the red-hot Shesterkin between the pipes against the Carolina Hurricanes. After an nconsistent start to the 2023-24 campaign, Shesterkin has been nearly unbeatable since the All-Star break, posting an incredible .948 SV% while limiting the opposition to one or fewer goals in six of 10 games (8-1-1).
With Igor Shesterkin's resurgence, Quick has been limited to only one start in the last nine games for the Rangers but will return to the crease on Monday night. Quick has been excellent when called upon this season, posting a 2.45 GAA and .916 SV% in 21 games (13-5-2), but has been inactive lately and allowed four goals on 41 shots (.902 SV%) in his last start on February 25th, a 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Rangers enter action as -135 home favourites against the New Jersey Devils.
Ginning made his season debut with the Flyers last week, his second career game, and could draw back into the lineup again after being recalled on Monday. In 53 games with the Lehigh-Valley Phantoms (AHL), Ginning has 13 points (2G / 11A).
Robertson was terrific in a brief stint with the Marlies, raising his totals to 11 points (5G / 6A) in 11 games in the AHL this season. His last game for the Maple Leafs was on February 29th, and he was amid a decent stretch of play, with four points (1G / 3A) in his last seven outings.
Demko exited Saturday's 5-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets in the second period with a knee injury and did not return to the contest. While further evaluations have ensured it is not a long-term injury, Demko is expected to miss several games as his initial prognosis is 2-3 weeks. Expect Case DeSmith to tend the twine in Demko's absence.
Fox's status for Monday's tilt against the New Jersey Devils is up in the air as he is battling an illness. The 26-year-old blueliner is enjoying another productive season with the Rangers and has accumulated 12 points (2G / 10A) in his last 10 games.
Lemieux was placed on waivers last week, but, after clearing, played in two of three games for the Hurricanes. The 27-year-old has only three points (2G / 1A) in 25 games this season and is producing at the lowest rate of his career (0.12 PTS / G),
Sorokin stopped 23 of 25 shots in the Islanders' win in San Jose on Thursday. It was the fifth consecutive victory for Sorokin, who has posted a .921 SV% during that stretch. After getting a breather on Sunday, he'll start the second-half of the Islanders' back-to-back in Los Angeles. The Islanders enter as +130 underdogs.
