The Penguins have recalled Casey DeSmith from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL).

DeSmith is not expected to play over the weekend. With a 5:00 pm game on Sunday, Tristan Jarry will remain in Pittsburgh, so DeSmtih will back up Matt Murray in Montreal and Jarry will start the Sunday game.

Casey DeSmith
The Predators have placed Ryan Ellis (upper-body) on IR.

Ellis was knocked out of the Winter Classic after being elbowed in the face by Corey Perry early in the first period. The Predators are still calling it an "upper-body injury" but it sure looked like a concussion. The Predators used the roster spot to call-up, Alexandre Carrier, from Milwaukee (AHL).

Ryan Ellis
Green (personal) is expected to return to the Red Wings lineup on Friday.

Green missed Tuesday's game while attending to a family matter but is expected to play tonight in Dallas. Green has no points in his last six games and has just seven points (2G / 5A) and a minus-24 rating in 32 games this season.

Mike Green
Olofsson will miss 5-to-6 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Olofsson had to be helped off of the ice on Thursday and it looked like he could miss a few weeks. The Sabres confirmed that it will be 5-to-6 weeks, which sidelines him until at least mid-February. This is a huge blow for the Sabres and Olofsson's rookie of the year chances. The 24-year-old is second on the team in goals (16) and points (35) this season.

Victor Olofsson
Kiviranta will make his NHL debut on Friday.

Kiviranta was called up from the AHL on Thursday and will replace Corey Perry in the lineup vs. the Red Wings. Perry is facing a suspension for his hit on Ryan Ellis in the Winter Classic, opening the door for Kiviranta's debut on the Stars fourth line.

Joel Kiviranta
Khudobin will start Friday vs. the Red Wings.

Khudobin allowed two goals on 35 shots in the Stars win in Arizona last Sunday. Khudobin has gone 3-0-0 with a 1.95 GAA and .948 SV% in his last four outings (three starts). He hasn't played in Dallas much this season but has been great when he has. The 33-year-old is 3-1-0 with a 1.62 GAA and .937 SV% in four games at American Airlines Center.

Anton Khudobin
The Canadiens have signed Ilya Kovalchuk to a two-way deal worth $700K.

With Brendan Gallagher, Joel Armia and Jonathan Drouin out right now, the Canadiens are looking for help upfront. Kovalchuk, whose contract was terminated by the Kings in mid-December, is a low-risk option that Montreal will be able to send to Laval (AHL) if it comes to that. Kovalchuk had just three goals and six assists (nine points) in 17 games with the Kings earlier in the year.

Ilya Kovalchuk
Pelech will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles tendon injury.

Pelech was a late scratch for Thursday's game with a "lower-body injury" that the Islanders confirmed was an Achilles tendon injury on Friday. Pelech will miss the rest of the 2020 season, so Sebastian Aho (not that one) has been called up from Bridgeport (AHL).

Adam Pelech
The Blue Jackets have reassigned Justin Scott to Cleveland (AHL).

Scott was called-up after an injury to Alexandre Texier on Wednesday but did not make his NHL debut because Sonny Milano returned from injury. With 12 healthy forwards on the roster as of now, Scott heads back to the AHL and awaits his next call-up.

Justin Scott
The Sabres shave recalled Scott Wilson from Rochester (AHL).

Victor Olofsson was hurt on Thursday night, so Wilson has been summoned from the AHL and will likely make his season debut on Saturday afternoon. Wilson has six goals and eight assists (14 points) in 22 AHL games this season.

Scott Wilson
Olofsson left Thursday's game with a lower-body injury and did not return.

Olofsson had to be helped down the tunnel after suffering a lower-body injury on the Sabres' game-tying goal. The Sabres quickly recalled Scott Wilson from Rochester on Friday morning, suggesting that Olofsson is going to miss some time. Expect the Sabres to release a more detailed injury update in the next 24 hours.
