Ward will start Tuesday vs. the Islanders.

Ward gave up six goals on 25 shots in the Blackhawks loss in New Jersey last Monday. Ward has now lost three of his last four starts while allowing a combined 17 goals on 120 shots (.858 SV%). Ward has not been a good option all season-long and is a terrible option vs. the red-hot Islanders—they come in on a five-game winning streak and winners of 15 of their last 18.

Ward will likely start Tuesday vs. the Islanders.

Cam Ward
Holtby is expected to start Tuesday vs. the Sharks.

Holtby was yanked after allowing four goals on 11 shots in the Capitals loss in Chicago on Sunday. It was a disastrous outing for Washington and Holtby is now 0-1-0 with a 3.85 GAA and .851 SV% in his last three starts. Tonight he faces a Sharks team on a back-to-back on home-ice, where he is 10-7-1 with a 2.67 GAA, .916 SV% and one shutout.

Braden Holtby
The Wild acquired Brad Hunt and a 2019 sixth-round pick from the Golden Knights for a 2019 fifth-round pick.

The Golden Knights needed to move a body or two and Hunt was a logical candidate. Hunt often sits as a healthy scratch, appearing in just 13 of 51 games this season. However, Hunt is a capable producer of offence from the blueline, picking up seven points (2G / 5A) in those games and could play regularly in Minnesota. Hunt has 34 career points (7G / 27A) in 91 NHL games with the Oilers, Blues, Predators and Golden Knights.

Brad Hunt
The Oilers have signed Mikko Koskinen to a three-year contract extension worth $13.5 million ($4.5M AAV).

Koskinen’s NHL career got off to an excellent start, going 11-3-1 with a 2.12 GAA, .930 SV% and three shutouts in his first 16 appearances. However, since then he is 3-7-0 with a 3.94 GAA and .879 SV% in 11 games. It is a bit alarming to sign a goalie to that kind of money in the middle of a very difficult stretch but in Koskinen’s defence, he doesn’t have a great blue line in front of him.

Mikko Koskinen
Quick led the Kings onto the ice for warmups.

Quick allowed five goals on 22 shots before being yanked Saturday in Colorado. The Kings did not show up in what ended up being a 7-1 blowout loss. Quick played very well in December but has gone 2-3-1 with an ugly 3.25 GAA and .899 SV% in six starts this month. Today he faces a Blues team that has won four of their last six (4-1-1).

Jonathan Quick
Anderson will start Tuesday against the Coyotes.

Anderson allowed three goals on 38 shots in the Senators loss in St. Louis on Saturday. It was a solid outing for Anderson, who had missed the previous 11 games with a concussion. Tonight he makes his first start but second appearance of the season vs. the Coyotes. Anderson stopped 22 of 24 shots in relief in a 5-1 loss in Arizona in the first meeting (Oct.30).

Craig Anderson
Binnington will start Monday in Los Angeles.

Binnington stopped 28 of 30 shots in the Blues win over the Senators on Saturday. Binnington has been outstanding in his last five outings, going 4-0-1 with a 1.19 GAA, .954 SV% and one shutout. He has a good chance to stay hot against a Kings team that ranks last in the NHL in goal-scoring (2.22 GF/pg) and losers of six of their last nine (3-5-1).

Jordan Binnington
Varlamov led the Avalanche onto the ice for warmups.

Varlamov stopped 30 of 31 shots in Colorado’s win over the Kings on Saturday. After a five-game losing streak, Varlamov has now won two of the last three while stopping 73 of 81 shots (.901 SV%). Today he faces the Predators for the third time this season—he is 1-1-0 with a 2.51 GAA and .930 SV%.

Semyon Varlamov
Rinne led the Predators onto the ice for warmups.

Rinne surrendered five goals on 34 shots in the Predators loss to the Jets last Thursday. Rinne is in the middle of a rough stretch, allowing a combined 14 goals on 88 shots (.830 SV%). He is 1-1-0 with a 2.05 GAA and .920 SV% in his first two starts against the Avalanche this season.

Pekka Rinne
Luongo will start Monday vs. the Sharks.

Luongo allowed one goal on 21 shots in the Panthers win over the Maple Leafs last Friday. The win ended an ugly six-game stretch for Luongo, who will make his 25th start of the season on Monday. The 39-year-old netminder comes into play at 5-2-1 with a 2.35 GAA, .918 SV% and one shutout on home-ice.
