NHL Hockey Player News

Abdelkader (lower-body) will not play on Tuesday.

Abdelkader will miss his second straight game with a lower-body injury that he suffered in Saturday’s loss in Pittsburgh. This is a tough time for Abdelkader to get hurt because he scored in back-to-back games for the first time this season. With Abdelkader out, David Booth will likely remain in the lineup vs.the Stars.

Justin Abdelkader
Shaw is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury; will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days.

Shaw missed practice on Sunday and will miss at least 7-10 days with a lower-body injury. It sounds like he could be sidelined for longer and the Canadiens have claimed Logan Shaw from Anaheim to take his roster spot for the time being.

Andrew Shaw
The Predators have recalled Juuse Saros from Milwaukee (AHL).

Saros went to the AHL during the Predators bye week and has spent a decent amount of time with the Admirals this season. Overall he is 3-5-0 with a 2.88 GAA and .906 SV% in nine AHL games and 4-3-3 with a 2.42 GAA and .922 SV% in 11 NHL games.

Juuse Saros
Bishop will start Tuesday in Detroit.

Bishop allowed three goals on 22 shots in the Stars loss to the Avalanche on Saturday. Kari Lehtonen started yesterday so Bishop draws the Red Wings tonight on the tail-end of a back-to-back. Bishop comes in having won four of his last six games while posting a 1.85 GAA, .942 SV% and one shutout. Bishop has a win over the Red Wings this season and tremendous career numbers against Detroit.

Ben Bishop
Danault (head) was released from the hospital on Sunday; not expected to play on Monday.

Danault had to be stretchered off of the ice on Saturday after taking a Zdeno Chara slapshot in the head. It was a scary scene on the Bell Centre ice, but he was released from the hospital yesterday, but still it is highly unlikely he will be available for tonight’s game vs. the Islanders.

Phillip Danault
Fritz will draw into the Islanders lineup on Monday.

Fritz has yet to pick up a point in three games since being called-up after scoring 10 goals with 27 assists (37 points) in 32 games with the Sound Tigers (AHL). He will replace Casey Cizikas (upper-body) tonight in Montreal.

Tanner Fritz
Greiss will start Monday in Montreal.

Greiss allowed five goals on 31 shots in the Islanders loss in Philadelphia on January 4th. 2017-18 has been disastrous for Greiss, who somehow has more wins than losses (9-6-2) despite posting a 3.89 GAA and .882 SV% in 18 starts and two relief appearances. Tonight he draws a solid matchup vs. the Canadiens, but has gone 4-5-0 with a 4.29 GAA and .881 SV% on the road.

Thomas Greiss
Aho had to be helped off of the ice during Sunday’s loss to the Flames.

Aho was hit in the head and the knee on a dangerous hit by Mark Giordano, that resulted in a match penalty for the defenseman. Aho was favoring his left leg as he was helped off of the ice, but luckily for the Hurricanes’ leading scorer, they have the next five days off with a bye week. Monitor Aho’s status heading into Saturday’s game in Detroit.

Sebastian Aho
Murray (personal) will travel on the Penguins three-game road-trip.

Murray missed the Penguins back-to-back on the weekend while he was dealing with a family matter. Murray will travel to California and will likely start one of the back-to-back games on Wednesday (in Anaheim) or Thursday (in Los Angeles).

Matt Murray
Khudobin gets the nod Monday vs. the Stars.

Khudobin allowed one goal on 28 shots in the Bruins’ win over the Hurricanes on January 6th. In his last three starts, Khudobin has gone 2-0-1 while stopping 94 of 98 shots (.959 SV%). The Stars come to town this afternoon averaging 2.95 goals for per game (13th in the NHL) and Khudobin has gone 4-1-1 with a 2.82 GAA and .904 SV% at TD Garden.

Anton Khudobin
Lehtonen will start Monday afternoon in Boston.

Lehtonen allowed four goals on 25 shots in the Stars loss in New Jersey on December 15th. Ben Bishop has played very well as of late so Lehtonen has not seen any playoff time, but this afternoon he will make his 11th start of the season. Lehtonen has gone 4-4-1 with a 2.32 GAA and .914 SV% on the road this season.
