NHL Hockey Player News

Talbot will start Wednesday vs. the Penguins.

Talbot allowed four goals on 30 shots in the Oilers loss to the Capitals on Saturday. Talbot has lost three of his last four while allowing a combined 12 goals on 130 shots (.908 SV%). Tonight he will take on the Penguins for the second time in just over a week—he allowed two goals on a whopping 44 shots in the OT loss in Pittsburgh last Tuesday.

Cam Talbot
Rinne is expected to start Wednesday in San Jose.

Rinne stopped 43 of 44 shots in the Predators win in Chicago last Friday. Rinne has won five of his first eight starts, while posting an impressive 1.86 GAA, .940 SV% and one shutout. Rinne has been rock solid to start the season, but has not been getting enough goal support. Tonight he faces a Sharks team in a similar situation—they come in averaging 2.73 goals for per game (23rd in the NHL).

Pekka Rinne
Schneider gets the nod Wednesday in Vancouver.

Schneider allowed three goals on 37 shots in the Devils’ win over the Coyotes on Saturday. October was a solid month for Schneider, who finished at 5-1-0 with a 3.26 GAA and .909 SV%. While his splits weren’t great, Schneider has been getting more goal support than he’s ever had in New Jersey. Tonight he faces his former team in Vancouver, making him a must-start.

Cory Schneider
Jones will start Wednesday vs. the Predators.

Jones allowed two goals on 18 shots in the Sharks’ win over the Maple Leafs on Monday. After a tough start to the season, Jones has won five of his last six starts and finished October at 5-3-0 with a 2.27 GAA, .925 SV% and one shutout. Tonight he takes on a Nashville team that is 28th in the NHL in scoring (2.45 GF/PG).

Martin Jones
Jagr (lower-body) will not return to the lineup on Thursday.

Jagr will miss his fifth consecutive game on Thursday, but he was on the ice for Wednesday’s practice which suggests the veteran is getting close to a return. In his five games this season, Jagr has registered two assists.

Jaromir Jagr
Varlamov will start Thursday vs. the Hurricanes.

Varlamov allowed seven goals on 21 shots in Colorado’s blowout loss in Vegas last Friday. Varlamov had nearly one full week off prior to tonight’s start vs. the Hurricanes. After a nice start to the season, Varlamov has lost three of his last four starts while allowing a combined 16 goals on 127 shots (.874 SV%).

Semyon Varlamov
Bishop will start Thursday in Winnipeg.

Bishop stopped 38 of 39 shots in the Stars’ win in Vancouver on Monday. After a couple of rough starts, Bishop bounced-back in a big way and finished October with six wins, a 2.51 GAA and .920 SV%. Tonight he faces a Jets team averaging 3.00 goals for per game and Bishop enters play at 2-2-0 with a 3.61 GAA and .895 SV% on the road.

Ben Bishop
Andersen will start Wednesday in Anaheim.

Andersen gave up two goals on 38 shots in the Maple Leafs loss in San Jose on Monday. It was a better performance from Andersen, who has lost four of his last five starts while allowing a combined 19 goals on 178 shots (.893 SV%). Andersen is facing an average of 33.3 shots per game and will continue to give up a lot of goals if that remains the case.

Frederik Andersen
Lowry (upper-body) was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice; won’t play until Saturday at the earliest.

Lowry will miss his eighth consecutive game with an upper-body injury that he suffered back on October 12th. He will miss Thursday’s game but could be back for Saturday’s contest vs. the Canadiens.

Adam Lowry
Bieksa (hand) will remain on IR and won’t play on Wednesday.

Bieksa will miss his fourth consecutive game with a hand injury, but head coach Randy Carlyle did not rule out a possible return for him on Sunday. With Bieksa still out, Jaycob Megna will remain in the Ducks’ lineup.

Kevin Bieksa
Hellebuyck will start Thursday vs. the Stars.

Hellebuyck stopped 28 of 29 shots in the Jets’ win in Minnesota on Tuesday. Hellebuyck has been one of the best goalies in the NHL to start the 2017-18 season, ranking fourth in the NHL in GAA (1.91), fifth in SV% (.940) and tied for seventh in wins (6) through the first month of the year. Tonight he faces a Stars team averaging 2.83 goals for per game.

Connor Hellebuyck
Markstrom will start Wednesday vs. the Devils.

Markstrom allowed two goals on 29 shots in the Canucks overtime loss to the Stars on Monday. It was a tough luck loss for Markstrom who has now allowed just seven goals on the last 90 shots that he has faced (.922 SV%). Tonight he faces a Devils team that is third in the NHL in scoring so far (3.80 GF/PG).

Jacob Markstrom
Boeser (foot contusion) has a “good chance” to return to the Canucks lineup on Wednesday.

Boeser missed Monday’s game with a foot contusion, but it looks like he could return tonight vs. the Devils. The rookie winger has had a good start to the season, posting two goals and seven assists (nine points) in his first eight games of the season. Look for him to replace Jayson Megna in the lineup if he plays.

Brock Boeser
Boyle (illness) is expected to make his Devils debut on Wednesday.

Boyle was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in September and it looks like he is ready to make his Devils and season debut tonight in Vancouver. Boyle is expected to centre the Devils’ fourth line with Miles Wood and Blake Coleman on his wings.

Brian Boyle
Gibson will start Wednesday vs. the Maple Leafs.

Gibson allowed one goal on 32 shots in the Ducks’ win in Tampa Bay on Saturday. Ryan Miller got the nod on Sunday, so they’ll come back to Gibson tonight vs. the Maple Leafs. Tonight he will face the second highest scoring team in the league (3.92 GF/PG)—Gibson comes in at 3-2-1 with a 2.53 GAA and .931 SV% on home ice this season.

John Gibson
Trotman is expected to be a healthy scratch on Wednesday.

Trotman played in the last three games, failing to record a point while averring 12:47 TOI/GM, but will be replaced by Frank Corrado tonight—he was a minus-3 in the Penguins loss in Winnipeg on Sunday.
