NHL Hockey Player News

Green (upper-body) will return to the Red Wings' lineup on Tuesday.

Green has missed the last eight games with an upper-body injury, but will be back in the lineup tonight in Chicago. Green has seven goals and 11 assists (18 points) in 32 games this season and should help the Red Wings struggling power-play.

Mike Green
Abdelkader (knee) will return to the Red Wings’ lineup on Tuesday.

Abdelkader has missed the last 16 games with an MCL sprain, but will return to the lineup tonight in Chicago. Abdelkader will skate on the Red Wings’ third line with Dylan Larkin and Tomas Tatar and comes into play with eight points (4G / 4A) in 22 games this season.

Justin Abdelkader
Rask was the first goalie off of the ice for the Bruins.

Rask stopped all 25 shots that he faced in the Bruins’ shutout win in Florida on Saturday. Zane McIntyre started on Sunday, so they’ll come back to Rask tonight in St. Louis. Rask has won three of his last five starts while turning aside 126 of 135 shots (.933 SV%). He allowed three goals on 27 shots in a 4-2 loss in his first start vs. the Blues.

Tuukka Rask
Miller will start Tuesday in Nashville.

Miller allowed two goals on 46 shots in the Canucks’ win over the Flames last Friday. Jacob Marsktrom gave him the night off on Saturday, but Miller will be back between the pipes tonight in Nashville. Miller is riding a five-game winning streak, having posting an impressive 1.38 GAA, .955 SV% and one shutout over that stretch.

Ryan Miller
The Blue Jackets have recalled Joonas Korpisalo from Cleveland (AHL) under emergency conditions.

Korpisalo has been recalled to serve as Anton Forsberg’s backup tonight in Carolina. Sergei Bobrovsky is sick, but should be ready to go for Friday, so expect Korpisalo to go back down after tonight’s game.

Joonas Korpisalo
Rinne starts Tuesday vs. the Canucks.

Rinne allowed three goals on 29 shots in the Predators’ loss in Chicago on Sunday. Rask has lost five of his last six starts (1-3-2) while posting a 2.63 GAA and .915 SV%, but will remain in net tonight instead of Juuse Saros, who has played much better. Rinne is 9-4-4 with a 2.21 GAA and .921 SV% on home-ice.

Pekka Rinne
The Maple Leafs have claimed Curtis McElhinney off of waivers from Columbus.

McElhinney has gone 2-1-2 with a 2.39 GAA and .924 SV% in just seven appearances (five starts) this season, but had one of the worst seasons of his career a year ago and has a sub-par career .905 SV%. The Maple Leafs clearly wanted Antoine Bibeau in the AHL and the veteran McElhinney is a low-cost option to backup Frederik Andersen, who will see the vast majority of starts in the second half.

Curtis McElhinney
Bobrovsky (illness) will not play on Tuesday.

Bobrovsky was coming off of a really strong outing on Sunday, but will sit tonight in Carolina. On Monday the Blue Jackets waived Curtis McElhinney and called up Anton Forsberg, who will make his season debut tonight. Bobrovsky is considered day-to-day and should be ready to start on of the Blue Jackets games in Florida on Friday and Saturday.

Sergei Bobrovsky
Forsberg will start Tuesday in Carolina.

Sergei Bobrovsky is sick and Curtis McElhinney is now a Maple Leaf, so Forsberg will make his season debut tonight in Carolina. The 24-year-old played very well during his time in Cleveland, going 12-6-1 with a 2.16 GAA and .930 SV% in 21 games. He is 1-7-0 with a 4.01 GAA and .882 SV% in his NHL career. He is a risky start against a sneaky good Carolina team.

Anton Forsberg
Crawford will start Tuesday vs. the Red Wings.

Crawford allowed two goals on 27 shots in the Blackhawks’ win over the Predators on Sunday. Crawford has now won his last two starts and three of six with a 2.53 GAA and .920 SV% since returning to the crease in late-December. Tonight he is a must-start on home-ice vs. the struggling Red Wings—Crawford is 9-2-3 with a 2.06 GAA and .933 SV% at the United Center.

Corey Crawford
Mason will start Tuesday in Buffalo.

Mason allowed two goals on 25 shots in the Flyers’ loss in Columbus on Sunday. Mason has lost six in a row while registering a 3.59 GAA and .860 SV%, but will remain in net tonight in Buffalo. Mason is 4-8-3 with a 3.08 GAA and .890 SV% on the road this season, so while the matchup looks appealing, there are better options tonight.

Steve Mason
Ward was the first goalie off of the ice for the Hurricanes.

Ward turned aside 32 of 35 shots in the Hurricanes overtime win over the Bruins on Sunday. Ward continues to play well in the Hurricanes crease and is expected to start for the 17th consecutive game tonight vs. the Blue Jackets. The 32-year-old is 10-3-1 with a 1.99 GAA and .928 SV% on home-ice but the Blue Jackets are a dangerous opponent.

Cam Ward
The Predators have recalled Pontus Aberg from Milwaukee (AHL).

Aberg, 23, has registered nine goals and 10 assists (19 points) in 23 games with Milwaukee this season. He has also appeared in nine games with the Predators, registering one goal and one assist. There’s no word whether or not he will draw into the lineup on Tuesday.

Pontus Aberg
Lindholm (upper-body) is expected to return to the Hurricanes’ lineup on Tuesday.

Lindholm has missed the last five games with an upper-body injury, but is expected to replace Ty Rattie in the lineup tonight vs. the Blue Jackets. Prior to getting hurt, Lindholm had a three-game point streak, picking up two goals and two assists. Lindholm has 13 points (4G / 9A) in 30 games this season.

Elias Lindholm
Nilsson will start Tuesday vs. the Flyers.

Nilsson allowed four goals on 43 shots in the Sabres’ overtime loss in Chicago last Thursday. Robin Lehner started on Saturday, but is sick today, so Nilsson will be back in goal vs. the Flyers. Tonight he will face Philadelphia for the second time this season—he stopped 38 of 41 shots in a 4-3 shootout loss in the first meeting. The 26-year-old is 4-1-1 with a 1.97 GAA and .942 SV% on home ice.

Anders Nilsson
Allen will start Tuesday vs. the Bruins.

Allen allowed three goals on 28 shots in the Blues’ loss to the Hurricanes on Thursday. The new father sat out on Saturday, but will start tonight vs. the Bruins. Allen has lost three of his last four while posting a 3.04 GAA and .885 SV%. Despite the rough stretch, he was great in his first start vs. Boston, stopping 39 of 41 shots in a 4-2 win.

Jake Allen
Budaj leads the Kings onto the ice for warmups.

Budaj surrendered three goals on 24 shots in the Kings’ win over the Wild on Saturday. Budaj has won three in a row while turning aside 65 of 71 shots (.916 SV%). Budaj is an impressive 12-2-1 with a 2.20 GAA and .905 SV% on home-ice this season and made 17 saves in a 4-3 OT win in his first start vs. the Stars.

Peter Budaj
Lehtonen leads the Stars onto the ice for warmups.

Lehtonen was pulled after he allowed three goals on 14 shots in the Stars’ loss in St. Louis on Saturday. Lehtonen has now lost two in a row while allowing a combined seven goals on 47 shots (.851 SV%). Tonight he will make his third start of the season vs. the Kings—he has gone 1-0-1 with a 2.96 GAA and .914 SV% in the first two meetings of the season.
