Smith (lower-body) skated without pads on Tuesday; remains without a timetable for his return.

Smith was on the ice for the first time since suffering a lower-body injury on October 18th. He was on the ice, but only skated without pads. Smith appears to be pretty far away from returning to the Coyotes’ crease, which means the Coyotes will continue with Louis Domingue and Justin Peters as their goaltending duo.

Mike Smith
Stone (upper-body) is questionable for Tuesday’s game.

Stone suffered an upper-body injury last Thursday and missed Saturday’s game vs. the Avalanche. Stone missed Monday’s practice and has been listed as questionable for tomorrow’s contest vs. San Jose. Monitor Stone’s status during the morning skate.

Michael Stone
Backes (elbow) could resume skating on Tuesday; expected to miss at least two more games.

Backes has missed the last three games after undergoing an elbow procedure, but it looks like he won’t play on the Bruins’ trip to Florida (TUE @ FLA, THU @ TBL) and the earliest he might return is Saturday vs. the Rangers. Monitor Backes’ status as the week progresses.

David Backes
The Maple Leafs have placed Matt Hunwick (lower-body) on injured reserve.

Hunwick has missed the last three games with a lower-body injury that he suffered last Tuesday. Hunwick has been placed on IR, but is eligible to be activated whenever he is healthy. His movement to IR allows the Maple Leafs to recall another player.

Matt Hunwick
Varlamov will start Tuesday vs. the Predators.

Varlamov allowed one goal on 21 shots in Colorado’s 1-0 loss to the Jets last Friday. Varlamov was inconsistent in October, finishing the month at 2-3-0 with a 2.82 GAA and .909 SV%. On Tuesday he will take on a Nashville team that is off to a sluggish start to 2016-17. The Predators are 2-5-1 and surprisingly rank 24th in the NHL in scoring (2.38 G/PG).

Semyon Varlamov
Eakin (knee) resumed light skating; expected to miss 2-to-3 more weeks.

Eakin’s original timetable was 5-to-6 weeks and today would mark the five-week mark, so he is behind schedule. Don’t expect to see Eakin until the middle of November. The Stars are really dinged up, so Eakin’s return will be very important.

Cody Eakin
Sharp (concussion-like symptoms) worked out on Sunday; still remains without a timetable for return.

Sharp has missed the last four games with concussion-like symptoms, but he skated on Sunday, which is a positive sign that he is progressing. However, Sharp remains without a firm timetable for when he’s expected to return to the lineup.

Patrick Sharp
Desjardins (lower-body) is expected to return this weekend.

Desjardins has not appeared in a game this season, but is expected to return in one of the Blackhawks’ back-to-back games this weekend. Desjardins will likely take Vince Hinostroza or Dennis Rasmussen’s spot in the lineup.

Andrew Desjardins
Crawford will start Tuesday vs. the Flames.

Crawford stopped all 32 shots that he faced in the Blackhawks’ shutout win over the Kings on Sunday. Crawford’s first five starts were forgettable—he was 1-3-1 with a 3.02 GAA and .897 SV%—but has won his last two while stopping 62 of 64 shots (.969 SV%). Tonight he will face a Flames team that has won three of their last four games.

Corey Crawford
The Avalanche have sent Gabriel Bourque to San Antonio (AHL).

Bourque failed to pick up a point in his first five games of the season, which led to him being a healthy scratch for the last two contests. Bourque was signed to a two-way contract this offseason, so he did not need to clear waivers to go to San Antonio.

Gabriel Bourque
Burrows (neck) will return to the Canucks’ lineup on Wednesday.

Burrows missed the last four games with a neck injury, but was back at practice on Monday and will play Wednesday in Montreal. Burrows, who has no points in five games, is expected to skate on the fourth line.

Alexandre Burrows
Parise (foot) remains week-to-week; but could be back sooner than originally expected.

Parise missed Saturday’s game vs. Dallas and is listed as week-to-week with a foot injury. Head coach Bruce Boudreau said that he thinks Parise is ahead of schedule and could be back sooner than originally expected. Monitor Parise’s status as the week progresses.

Zach Parise
Hemsky will miss 5-6 months after undergoing surgery to repair a labral tear in his hip.

Hemsky suffered the injury at the Word Cup of Hockey and only appeared in one game with the Stars before undergoing surgery. If Hemsky misses five months, he will be out until early April, so it’s very likely that his 2016-17 regular season is over before it really got started.

Ales Hemsky
Fasching left Sunday’s game with a groin injury and did not return.

Fasching played just one shift before leaving Sunday’s game vs. the Jets. Head coach Dan Bylsma didn’t have an update on Fasching after the game, but said they will likely have another forward at practice on Monday, which suggests that Fasching will miss some time.

Hudson Fasching
Kreider (neck) practiced on Monday; expected to play on Tuesday.

Kreider missed the last four games with a neck strain, but was a full-participant in Monday’s practice and should be back in the lineup on Tuesday. Kreider had a great start to the season, picking up three goals and four assists (seven points) in five games.

Chris Kreider
The Canadiens have assigned Mikhail Sergachev to Windsor (OHL).

Sergachev was the ninth overall pick this past summer and he made the team out of training camp. He was a healthy scratch most of the time and failed to record a point in the three games he did play in. Sergachev returns to Windsor, who will host this year’s Memorial Cup—he had 57 points (17G / 40A) in 67 games with the Spitfires last year.
