NHL Hockey Player News

Quick was the first goalie off of the ice for the Kings.

Quick surrendered two goals on 17 shots in the Kings 4-2 victory over the Coyotes on Saturday. It was a nice easy night for Quick, who is in-line for his fifth consecutive start tonight vs. the Flames. Quick is 4-3-1 with a 2.37 GAA and .903 SV% in December, but makes for a strong start tonight vs. a slipping Flames squad.

Jonathan Quick
Weiss (shoulder) could return on Tuesday vs. Buffalo.

Weiss took part in Red Wings practice on Monday and said that he thinks he will play on Tuesday. Head coach Mike Babcock reiterated that he expects Weiss to return tomorrow, but will know for sure after the morning skate.

Stephen Weiss
Luongo starts in goal vs. the Penguins.

Luongo allowed three goals on 34 shots in the Panthers 3-1 loss to the Penguins on Saturday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Bobby Lu, but he will get another crack at the Penguins tonight at home. Luongo has gone 6-3-2 with a 2.08 GAA and .927 SV% in 11 starts at the BB&T Center this season.

Roberto Luongo
Miller is the Canucks probable starter.

Miller allowed two goals on 28 shots in the Canucks win over the Flames on Saturday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Miller, who now sits at 17-7-0 with a 2.66 GAA and .901 SV% this season. Tonight he draws a great matchup at home vs. the Coyotes—he is 8-2-0 with a 2.45 GAA and .900 SV% at home.

Ryan Miller
Havlat missed practice on Monday and is being tested for mumps.

Havlat has one goal and one assist in eight games since returning from a lower-body injury. It looks like he could bounced from the lineup again, this time as he is being tested for mumps.

Martin Havlat
Elias missed practice on Monday and is being tested for mumps.

Elias has been bouncing in and out of the lineup as of late and now it looks like he could be heading into the Christmas break with mumps. He will be tested today and results usually take a few days to come in, so it would appear that he won’t play tomorrow.

Patrik Elias
Anderson starts vs. the Capitals.

Anderson surrendered two goals on 34 shots in the Senators win over the Ducks last Friday. He was given Saturday night off, but will be back in goal tonight vs. the Capitals. Andy has been great in his last two starts (.971 SV%) but will be in tough on the road vs. a strong offence. He is 3-6-2 with a 2.62 GAA and .927 SV% on the road.

Craig Anderson
Fleury will start Monday vs. the Panthers.

Fleury stopped 45 of 46 shots in the Penguins 3-1 win over the Panthers on Saturday. It was an outstanding performance for Fleury, who has won his last four starts with a 0.99 GAA and .970 SV%. He is scorching hot and should be an excellent start tonight in Florida.

Marc-Andre Fleury
Bishop (lower-body) feels as if he can start on Tuesday.

Bishop was back at practice again on Monday and said after the skate that he thinks he will be able to play on Tuesday. We likely won’t know if he is starting for sure until after tomorrow’s morning skate, but this is great news for Bishop owners.

Ben Bishop
Howard (groin) unlikely to be available on Tuesday.

Howard skated on Monday, but left practice a bit early, which suggests that he won’t be ready for Tuesday’s game vs. the Sabres. With the easy matchup and three days off after, it would seem to make sense to give Petr Mrazek another start and give Howard a few more days to get to 100 percent.

Jimmy Howard
Mrazek is likely starting on Tuesday vs. Buffalo.

Mrazek allowed one goal on 23 shots in the Red Wings 2-1 shootout loss to the Avalanche on Sunday. It was another strong out for the young net minder but Detroit continues to struggle to find ways to score. It looks like Jimmy Howard will be held out of tonight’s game, so look for Mrazek to take on the Sabres.

The Penguins are expected to recall Jeff Zatkoff from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL).

Zatkoff will be recalled, very likely to backup Marc-Andre Fleury tonight because Thomas Greiss has been sent back to Pittsburgh to be tested for mumps again.

The Coyotes have recalled Brandon Gormley from Portland (AHL).

Gormley suffered a lower-body injury in mid-November and missed several games. He was sent down to Portland as a type of conditioning stint to get him back up to speed. He has one goal in six games with Arizona this season.
