NHL Hockey Player News

Ramo starts for the Flames.

Ramo turned aside 24 of 25 shots in a win over the Oilers in his return to the crease on Saturday. The Flames have scored more goals than any team in the NHL since the Trade Deadline, so the goal support is there for Ramo, he just needs to hold down the fort in goal. That will be easier said than done tonight with the high-powered Sharks in town.

Karri Ramo
Smith will make his 12th consecutive start tonight.

Smith allowed three goals on 27 shots in a loss to the Bruins on Saturday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Smith, but hey, no one can beat the Bruins right now so don't feel bad Mike. Smith has gone 7-4-0 with a 2.18 GAA and .924 SV% in March.

Mike Smith
Murphy (upper-body) is ready to return to the Hurricanes lineup on Tuesday.

Murphy missed the last two games with an upper-body injury that he suffered last Tuesday. Monitor his status during tomorrow's morning skate, but it sounds like head coach Kirk Muller fully expects him to be available.

Ryan Murphy
Bernier (groin) is making progress, but there is no guarantee that he will be available on Tuesday.

James Reimer is struggling big time with Bernier sidelined, so the Leafs are hoping his return comes sooner rather than later, but it is unknown if he will be back Tuesday vs. St. Louis. Monitor his status during tomorrow's morning skate.

Jonathan Bernier
Grabovski (ankle) was back on the ice with his teammates for the first time in nearly a month.

Grabovski, 30, has missed 20 of the last 21 games because of a sprained left ankle and hasn’t taken part in a full practice session since the morning skate Feb. 27 in Florida. Given the length of time Grabovski has been out, he likely would need several practices without a setback before getting back in game action.

Mikhail Grabovski
Lehner will start once again for the Senators, Craig Anderson will back-up.

Lehner gave up three goals on 44 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Stars on Saturday. Lehner was actually strong, but the Sens have just been awful as of late. The 22-year-old has lost all five starts since Anderson was injured, posting a 4.34 GAA and .880 SV% in the process. Tonight, he faces a red-hot Steven Stamkos and the Lightning.

Robin Lehner
Budaj gets the call vs. the Bruins.

Budaj allowed four goals on 32 shots in a loss to the Bruins in his last start (Mar. 12). He has lost each of his last four starts while allowing a whopping 13 goals. The Habs have a back-to-back on Monday and Tuesday, but it is suprising that they will give Budaj the Bruins and save Carey Price for the… wait for it… Sabres. Budaj is 1-1-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .925 SV% vs. Boston this season.

Peter Budaj
Quick was the first goalie off of the ice at the Kings' morning skate.

Quick turned aside all 24 shots that he faced in a 4-0 victory over the Panthers on Saturday. Quick set the Kings franchise record with his 172nd career win, which was also his 23rd of the season and fifth shutout. Tonight, it looks like he will face the Flyers in Philly. Quick sits at 23-15-2 with a 2.01 GAA and .917 SV% on the season.

Jonathan Quick
Lundqvist will be in goal for the Rangers.

Lundqvist stopped all 21 shots he has faced in a 2-0 win over the Devils on Saturday. Hank has won each of his last three starts with 1.67 GAA and .942 SV%. He surrendered four goals in a losing effort in his only other start vs. Phoenix this season. Lundqvist enters play tonight with a 12-13-4 record at Madison Square Garden.

Henrik Lundqvist
Brown (chest) is on the ice for the Kings' gameday skate.

Brown was injured in Saturday's shutout win over the Panthers. Despite not immediately traveling with the team to Philadelphia, Brown joined the team on Sunday and visited with doctors Monday morning. Being at the morning skate suggests he got good news from the docs and should be in the lineup tonight vs. the Flyers.

Dustin Brown
Stepan (flu) will be a game-time decision Monday.

Stepan is riding a three-game goal scoring streak and the Rangers are in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race, so they want to see #21 suit up tonight. Martin St. Louis is also a game-time decision with the illness. Stepan has 15 goals and 35 assists (50 points) in 72 games, including 14 in his last 12.

Derek Stepan
St. Louis (flu) will be a game-time decision Monday.

St. Louis has no goals and three assists in his first 10 games with the Rangers. Fellow top-6 forward Derek Stepan is also a game-time decision with the flu, so New York could potentially be very shorthanded tonight vs. Phoenix. Monitor St. Louis' status prior to puck-drop.

Martin St. Louis
Budaj practicing in the 'starter's crease' this morning.

Budaj allowed four goals on 32 shots in a loss to the Bruins in his last start (Mar. 12). He has lost each of his last four starts while allowing a whopping 13 goals. The Habs have a back-to-back today and Tuesday, but it is very interesting that the may give Budaj the Bruins and save Carey Price for the… wait for it… Sabres. Budaj is 1-1-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .925 SV% vs. Boston this season.

Peter Budaj
Bishop "should be" back in goal Monday, said head coach Jon Cooper.

Bishop was reportedly stung by a shot in practice this morning and spoke to the trainers before leaving the ice, but it sounds like he is OK to start tonight vs. the Senators. He allowed four goals on 31 shots in a 5-4 win over the Sens (his former team) in his last start. Bishop has won five in a row, despite allowing three-plus goals in four of five. He has owned his former team this season, beating them in all three meetings so far.

Ben Bishop
Rask was the first goalie off of the ice at the Bruins' morning skate.

Rask shut the door on 31 of 33 shots in a 4-2 win over the Coyotes on Saturday. The win extended his personal winning-streak to seven games and the Bruins to 12… Yeah, they've won 12 straight. I have said this 51 other times this season, but I'll say it again, Rask is a must-start. He is 1-2-0 with a 2.39 GAA and .926 SV% vs. the Habs this season.

Tuukka Rask
Emery starts in goal for the Flyers.

Emery stopped 23 of 25 shots in a 3-2 overtime win over the Blackhawks last Tuesday. It was a much better outing than his first one vs. Chicago. The Flyers do not have a back-to-back and Steve Mason has been unreal lately, so it is surprising to see Emery getting the nod. That said, he will face the Kings tonight at the Wells Fargo Center, where he is 4-1-0 this season.

The Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Tim Erixon from Springfield (AHL).

Erixon, 23, has scored five goals and dished out 28 assists for 33 points in 36 games with Springfield in 2013-14. He leads all Falcons defensemen in assists and points. The 6-2, 200-pound blueliner has also skated in two games with Columbus this season, recording one blocked shot, one hit and one shot on goal in 28:41 of action.
