NHL Hockey Player News

Neuvirth was the first goalie off of the ice at Capitals morning skate.

Neuvirth gave up five goals on 30 shots in a 6-5 OT win over the Red Wings on Sunday. His numbers don't look great, but he made the saves he needed to en route to his fourth win of the season. Tonight it looks like he will face the Islanders at home. Neuvirth is 4-2-0 with a 3.05 GAA and .902 SV% in Washington this season.

Michal Neuvirth
Sedin (finger/ribs) returns to the Canucks lineup tonight.

Sedin missed the last six games, but he will suit up for Monday's tilt with the Red Wings. Sedin has 40 points (9G / 31A) and a plus-7 rating in 50 games this season. Daniel will be excited to get his brother back on his line tonight, he recorded just one assist in the six games that Henrik missed.

Henrik Sedin
The Canadiens have returned Christian Thomas to Hamilton (AHL).

Thomas averaged 7:11 TOI and was a minus-1 with one shot in two games with the Habs. With Montreal trading away a defenseman for a forward (Dale Weise) today, Thomas' services were no longer required.

Christian Thomas
Wild head coach Mike Yeo said there is a very good chance that Spurgeon plays on Tuesday.

Spurgeon has missed 14 games with a broken foot, but it sounds like he will be back in tomorrow. There was talk that he may return this past Saturday but that never ended up coming together. He has one goal and 11 assists in 43 games this season.

Jared Spurgeon
Smith gets the call on Tuesday.

Smith allowed one goal on 24 shots in a win over the Penguins on Saturday. For those of you who were brave enough to test the matchup, you were rewarded with a great game. He enters play on Tuesday with 12-7-3 record, a 2.72 GAA and .908 SV% at home this season.

Mike Smith
Halak gets the start on Tuesday.

Halak gave up two goals on 30 shots in a loss to the Hurricanes on Friday. He finished January at 6-2-0 with a 1.70 GAA and .939 SV%. It was an extremely good month for the Slovakian Olympian, who has seen the vast majority of starts over Brian Elliott lately. Roll him out vs. the Senators with confidence.

Jaroslav Halak
Bobrovsky in goal in Anaheim.

Bobrovsky allowed one goal on 36 shots in a win over the Panthers on Saturday. Bob has been great since returning to the Blue Jackets crease. He has won nine of 11 while posting a 2.18 GAA and .931 SV%. He has a tough matchup tonight, but the way he is rolling right now, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Sergei Bobrovsky
Tyler Kennedy (lower body) is probable.

Kennedy took part in the Sharks' morning skate and looks like he will be back in the lineup tonight. He missed the last two games with a lower-body injury. Kennedy has four goals and 11 assists in 49 games this year.

Tyler Kennedy
Mason starts vs. the Sharks.

Mason stopped all 35 shots that he faced in a 2-0 win over the Kings on Saturday. The Flyers only fired 13 shots on Jonathan Quick, so this win was all Mason. I was his second shutout of the week and third of the season. Tonight he will meet a Sharks team who has scored just two goals in their last four games.

Steve Mason
Quick draws the start vs. Chicago.

Quick stopped 11 of 13 shots in Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Flyers. Yep. The Flyers only had 13 shots and won… The Kings offence is so quiet right now, which limits Quick's short-term fantasy value. He has just one win in his last eight games and a W won't be easy to come by tonight with the Blackhawks in town.

Jonathan Quick
Niemi starts for the Sharks.

Niemi stopped 29 of 30 shots as he out-dueled Corey Crawford to a 2-1 shootout win over the Blackhawks on Saturday. It was his 28th win of the season which puts him one behind Marc-Andre Fleury for the NHL lead. He carries an 18-2-3 home record into tonight vs.the Flyers.
