NHL Hockey Player News

Rinne will start for the Predators.

Rinne allowed three goals on 25 shots in a win over the Panthers on Tuesday. He has won each of his last two starts with relative ease, but that should change tonight vs. Los Angeles. The Kings are much tougher opponents than the Panthers and the Islanders, so you might want to look at your other matchups before deploying Rinne tonight.

Pekka Rinne
Quick in net for the Kings.

Quick was yanked from Tuesday's start after giving up three goals on 17 shots. His slow start to the 2013-14 continued and he has now won just three out of six starts while posting a 2.90 GAA and .896 SV%. He should be able to keep the puck out of the net against the Predators 24th ranked offence.

Jonathan Quick
Valeri Nichushkin back in the lineup Thursday vs. Sharks.

After giving Valeri Nichushkin the night off against Colorado Tuesday, Stars head coach Lindy Ruff has the 18-year-old rookie back on the ice Thursday against the Sharks at American Airlines Center. Ruff will move Nichushkin from the right wing to the left wing and play him with two veterans in Shawn Horcoff and Erik Cole. The line makes sense, in that Nichushkin will probably have to simplify his game on the left side and he’ll be supported by two veterans. In the first four games, he has wandered in his assignments and has just one shot on goal from the right side.

Valeri Nichushkin
Ward will start vs. Toronto.

Ward allowed two goals 36 in a tough luck loss to the Blackhawks on Tuesday. He has another tough matchup against the Maple Leafs who are fourth in the NHL in scoring (3.71 Goals per game) and the second best power play (33.3%).

Cam Ward
Niemi will make his seventh straight start tonight.

Niemi stopped 25 of 27 shots in a 6-2 win over the Blues on Tuesday. It was Niemi's sixth win in as many starts, while posting a 1.50 GAA and .936 SV%. He will try and get to 7-0 tonight in Dallas. He was 1-2-1 with a 2.73 GAA and .897 SV% in four starts against the Stars last season.

Antti Niemi
Backstrom (knee) participated fully in practice on Wednesday and will return to the bench tonight in a backup role.

It is a good sign that Backstrom will be back in the Wild crease soon. Minnesota takes on Florida on Saturday, he should be ready to start then.

Niklas Backstrom
Gustavsson makes his third straight start tonight.

Gustavsson has filled in admirably in Jimmy Howard's (hand) absence. He won both of his back-to-back, stopping 64 of 67 (.955 SV%) shots. He will try to hand the Avalanche their first loss tonight, while Howard will get some more time to heal.

Jonas Gustavsson
Tedenby enters the Devils lineup in Ryane Clowe's absence.

Tedenby is expected to skate on the line with Travis Zajac and Michael Ryder when the Devils play at Ottawa tonight. "He’s a good player. He has lots of skills," Zajac said of Tedenby. "He creates space with his speed. I think it’s only going to help us, bringing in some youth and some excitement and some energy."

According to Boyle's agent, who has spoken with Boyle a number of times, the veteran defenseman “feels great.” Boyle is not experiencing any headaches, and remembers everything before getting checked from behind into the boards by St. Louis’ Maxim Lapierre on Tuesday night.

Boyle also remembers waking up on the ice as he was leaving on a stretcher. Boyle was knocked out cold for several minutes early in the first period of the Sharks' 6-2 win over the Blues. This is great news for the Sharks, as it sounds like Boyle will not miss a lot of time.

Dan Boyle
Paajarvi will make his Blues debut tonight in Chicago.

Paajarvi came over in the David Perron trade this offseason. He has been a bust to this point in his career, and is clearly not getting enough playing time to be fantasy relevant in his new home.
