NHL Hockey Player News

Harding goes again tomorrow for the Wild.

With Niklas Backstrom on the shelf with an injury, Harding will make his second straight start. Thing were pretty easy for him on Thursday when the Jets were only able to throw 15 shots his way. Harding stopped 14 of 15 in the 2-1 win. He will face the Stars tomorrow who will be playing their second game in as many nights.

Biron will start vs. the Blues tomorrow.

Biron will make his second appearance but first start of the season on Saturday. Henrik Lundqvist has been hung out to dry by his teammates in his last two starts (10 goals against), so they will look to shake things up with Biron. If 'King Henrik' can't backstop the Rangers to a win, I wouldn't trust Biron against a tough Blues team.

Cam Ward is expected to get the start tonight vs. Carolina.

Ward has struggled so far this season allowing eight goals in two starts. His 3.90 GAA and .893 SV% are not very Ward-like numbers. So far he has been outplayed by Anton Khudobin and could be in trouble of losing starts down the road. He draws a tough matchup tonight when he takes on the L.A Kings.

Cam Ward
Greiss expected to go for Coyotes, has faced Flyers once, stopped 37 of 38 shots 10/25/09

Greiss made his Coyotes debut on Tuesday when he came in to relieve Mike Smith. He stopped seven of the eight shots he faced. Tonight would mark his first start as a Coyote and it would be against the 1-3-0 Flyers.

Thomas Greiss
Howard starts tomorrow for the Red Wings.

Howard played very well on Thursday, stopping 34 of 37 shots, but the Red Wings played poorly in front of him. After starting 2-0 he has lost each of his last two starts. He will face a Flyers team still searching for an identity under new head coach Craig Berube.

Jimmy Howard
Head coach Adam Oates says Michal Neuvirth will start Saturday against Colorado.

Neuvirth's only action this season was a 27 save performance that came in relief of Braden Holtby. He was awarded the win after the Capitals came back and won in a shootout. He will try and hand the Avalanche their first loss tomorrow.

Michal Neuvirth
Kari Lehtonen off the ice first for Stars.

The Stars had five days off between their last game and today, so Lehtonen should be well rested. In his last start he allowed just one goal on 26 shots in a 2-1 win over the Capitals. He will face a Jets team playing in the second game of a back-to-back and who have lost two straight.

Kari Lehtonen
Ondrej Pavelec off first at the morning skate for Winnipeg.

Pavelec gave up two goals on 30 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Wild last night. He will start again tonight instead of the Jets going to Al Montoya on the tail-end of a back-to-back. His GAA dropped from 3.34 to a more respectable 3.02 after giving up less than three goals for the first time this season.

Ondrej Pavelec
Poulin will make his season debut vs. Chicago.

The 23-year-old Poulin was 1-3-0 with a 3.02 GAA and .893 SV% last season. Tonight will be his first start of the season after Evgeni Nabokov started the Isles first three games. He draws a tough assignment facing the Blackhawks, so there is limited spot start value here.

Kevin Poulin
Zatkoff will make his NHL debut vs. Panthers.

Zatkoff went 26-20-0 with a 1.93 GAA and .920 SV% with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season. He has a great matchup vs. a Panthers team that is averaging just 1.75 goals per game. On a somewhat quiet night in the NHL, he could be a solid spot start.
