NHL Hockey Player News

Hearing Joey MacDonald in goal for #Flames tonight.

MacDonald went 8-9-1 with a 2.87 GAA and .902 SV% as a part-time starter / backup for the Flames last season. With a back-to-back yesterday and today, it looks like MacDonald will get his first start of the season tonight. The way the Flames defense looked last night, it would be hard to trust Joey Mac.

Sergei Bobrovsky gets the call in goal vs. the Flames.

In his first season as a Blue Jacket, Bobrovsky was outstanding. He almost carried the team to the playoffs on the back of a Vezina Trophy winning season - 21-11-6 record, 2.00 GAA and .932 SV%. His numbers are expected to drop-off slightly in 2013-14, but not too bad. The secret is out on Bobrovsky, he is a legit fantasy number-1.

Sergei Bobrovsky
Hillen left yesterday's game in obvious pain after being hit by Flames forward Lance Bouma. His knee was caught in a collision along the boards and he fell to the ice unable to move. Hillen was taken to the hospital, but the extent of the injury is not yet known.

“He’s going to be out for a bit,” Captials head coach Adam Oates said, “but I don’t want to speculate.” The newly acquired Alexander Urbom or Steve Oleksy will step onto the Caps blueline with HIllen out.

Jack Hillen
Washington coach Adam Oates sats he will "absolutely" go back to Holtby on Saturday after being yanked last night.

Holtby was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots vs. the Flames last night. He has had a shaky start to the season allowing eight goals in four periods. His early season 6.35 GAA and .822 SV% were not the start fantasy owners were looking for. Holtby will look to rebound tomorrow vs. a 0-1 Stars team.

Braden Holtby
The Boston Bruins have signed Dennis Seidenberg to a 4 year, $16 million US contract extension. The contract includes a no-trade clause.

Seidenberg has played the last three and a half seasons with the Bruins appearing in 224 games, scoring 18 goals, 63 assists and a plus-45. The 32-year-old is a solid defenseman but is not fantasy relevant except for in deep leagues.

Dennis Seidenberg
Luongo will start tonight for the Canucks.

Luongo is once again the number-1 goalie in Vancouver. Last season he went 9-6-3 with a 2.56 GAA and .907 SV% while splitting time with Cory Schneider. Luongo will be John Tortorella's workhorse this season. He should start at least 60 games and with a solid team in front of him Lu should be able to win 35 games.

Roberto Luongo
Anderson will start tomorrow vs. Buffalo.

Anderson had a roller coaster of a year in 2012-13. He started the season 8-4-2 with a 1.47 GAA and a .952 SV% before spraining his ankle in mid-February. He missed the rest of February, all of March and the first week in April for a total of 19 games. When he returned he went 4-5-0 with a 2.02 GAA and .917 SV% which brought his totals to 1.69 and .941; he led the NHL in both categories. This year the Senators should be a playoff team again and Anderson should have another good season.

Craig Anderson
Backstrom will start for the WIld.

Backstrom tied for the NHL lead in wins last season with 24. He posted a 2.48 GAA and .909 SV% as the Wild snuck into the playoffs. They were somewhat disappointing after signing Ryan Suter and Zach Parise in the offseason. However in 2013-14 they look poised for a strong season which is good news for Backstrom owners.

Niklas Backstrom
Ruutu skated Wednesday and is going out again today. There are reports he could be back in week or two.

He appeared in only 17 games last season, registering four goals and five assists (9 points). In his last full season, Ruutu played in 72 games scoring 18 goals and adding 16 assists. The 30-year-old is an injury risk, but if he gets off to a hot start in his return he could hold some sneaky fantasy value on a good Hurricanes offense.
